“The first thing for me was he didn’t release the Epstein files. They’re even acting like they didn’t exist,” he said, before moving on to his other grievances. “And, of course, they’re sending Israel and Ukraine all of our tax dollars just like the numb-nuts before him did. Putting America last, and now he’s blaming the beef farmers for the price of beef.”
Mitchell added, “Hey, I’m not biased, man. He talked a good game; he tricked me. I was fooled. I admit it.”
“Yeah, I do think that Donald Trump is that beast of Revelation 13:3.”
He talked a good game
No he didn’t, at all. You’re just really stupid so you think he did.
It’s really obvious if you’ve learned to think critically. If you haven’t, then it’s easy to fall for the lies. There is a reason why he’s the central public figure of the GOP. The man provably knows how to rile up crowds.
If you haven’t learned critical thinking, that is the same thing as being dumb.
I’d argue that’s more ignorance, than stupidity; you can’t help what you aren’t aware of or weren’t taught.
That excuse works for children, not grown adults.
I mean, I think it’s complicated; there is something to be said about the intentional suppression of education that the right has studiously (ironically) worked on precisely because a less informed population is easier to manipulate, etc.
I don’t think it absolves them of fault (I insatiably read every Leopards Ate My Face story as much as the next person; no lie).
I’d, also, contemplate that it’s maybe not sufficiently explained by just lack of critical thinking if they’re on their third round of voting for him.
I just meant that – if your argument is that they weren’t taught critical thinking – it, definitionally, can’t be stupidity but ignorance because stupidity is when you knew full-well and better while ignorance is when you don’t know something.
(I also think there’s an unintentional leaning, on Lemmy, towards a eugenics-sympathetic “well, these people are just constitutionally stupid and that’s just the way they are” relatively often (though the current state of the world makes it a bit understandable). I’m not saying OP thinks that but I could see those who’re sympathetic to that worldview easily working with the original statement, as worded; and I think we easily don’t walk into those sort of pitfalls when we’re particular and accurate about our words and definitions (hence, also, why I was pointing out that it can’t be stupidity, definitionally))
the entire US public education system was designed around not teaching critical thinking skills, specifically to make compliant factory workers…
It’s fascinating how many, who believe they are “thinking critically”, follow Trump because he “talks good”. They think so critically, that they don’t notice the irony.
“He is The One. He
movesthinks like they do.”
He “talked a good game” if you are a moronic bigot. This guy is still a moronic bigot despite his “revelations”.
At least he’s admitting he’s wrong. I’m willing to let him save face a bit even if it’s completely fucking obvious to anyone that paid attention to his first term that he’s completely full of shit.
Agreed. People can’t help being stupid. People can only fix ignorance, and he’s done what he can (so far).
Depends on how you interpret the word “good”. Not in a moral sense obviously, but good as in “effective”? Trump got elected POTUS twice, despite (or because of) being one of the most despicable human beings to ever exist. Not a great orator, and every time I see him speak I want to vomit, but still, objectively I’d have to concede that he did indeed talk a good game.
Did he get elected really? In his own words he had “all the votes [he] needs”, he didn’t care how the popular vote landed because it wasn’t relevant, those aren’t the votes that actually do anything.
He got the people who determine rhe results of the election to say he was elected.
I’ve always hated this “Well, you can’t argue with the results” metric. The calculation I get from Trump’s victory is that you could have any number of scandals plaguing a candidate, and as long as they’re ultra-racist and churn out the same brain-dead ultra-nationalist talking points we’d been warning about since the classic “Don’t Be a Sucker” PSA, central America will vote en masse for them.
It says far more about THEM than it does about that THING as an orator. It pains me to admit truth to the articles claiming “This was not a pure mistake. This is always who America has been.”
What I’m saying is that Trump has the right set of ingredients to win the support of these morons, and while his personal “qualities” like privilege, cruelty, racism, malleability and hubris are a part of that, the whole package doesn’t work unless he can deliver the right kind of speech, which gives the fascists what they want. The dumbest of them find validation in the idiocy of Trump’s words. For a movement which rejects good faith discourse entirely, the endless lies, the self-aggrandizement, the dogwhistles are all what they want to hear. The incoherent rambling delivery is just perfect for avoiding any accountability. It’s all the more appealing because honest people find it infuriating, and it degrades every person and institution which has to engage with it.
I don’t want to imply any great skill here, it’s just the way Trump is, but it happens to be the right play for this game. Which, I agree, is far more an indictment of the game than an accolade for the player.
To assume all these people are stupid is in itself stupid.
People have been gaslight for decades now and most people are not critically online like us so it can be hard to know you’re being lied to.
Edit: Before saying the same thing to me again and again, please read my other replies before coming at me. The replies below show me that you people don’t care about changing minds and just care about being right in a place where most of are left leaning, yet all you do is talk with other left leaning people with no ability to change minds, which I’ve done several times. I would argue I am doing more for the cause than you lot.
Falling for gaslighting as blatant as Trump means they were stupid. Every lie he told was obviously a lie. He constantly contradicted himself in obvious ways between or within the same rambling incoherent sentences.
Yes, they are all stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Respectively, I don’t agree and I’ve had success in de radicalising 5 friends and family which I couldn’t do if I wrote them off as stupid.
Ignorant, sure. Stupid, no.
Have fun watching them continue to vote Republican in future elections when they fall for the next stupidly obvious thing.
Have fun assuming everybody is American.
Also, for your lack of faith. I guess I wonder why you even comment on this stuff if your intention isn’t to change views then is it just ego stroking?
You responded to a post about people falling for Trump rhetoric, so assuming you were as well is just working in the context of the thread. Insert far right if you can’t wrap your head around context.
It is acknowledging that de radicalizing someone stupid enough to fall for far right rhetoric isn’t something that is a one and done deal. Extremely few people do more than kind of change their viewpoint on one or two topics and will easily slide back into the same mindset on new or even the same topics when exposed to more of the same.
Saying you deradicalized a half dozen people is bragging that you got some children to settle down for an hour. It is extremely likely that they just say nice things in front of you to shut you up while continuing the same thing when you aren’t watching.
I don’t agree. You’re essentially teaching people to question what they’re told and at least pause for thought before maybe sharing that misinformation online.
If people are aware that the media is manipulating them and they’ve been shown concrete examples then it stands to reason that they will get better at this the more they do.
Otherwise what’s the fucking point? Is just a circle jerk no?
Pandering to the hopelessly stupid got us in this mess.
Frankly I don’t agree.
I’ve had success so far in de radicalising 5 friends/family. Which is5 more votes for a party I would want in power than before.
If you’re going to just ignore them nothing is going to change. They are not suddenly going to wake up and vote Green.
Can you honestly say you’d trust their decision making without you on their shoulder? They’ve already demonstrated who they are very clearly, when someone tells you they’re horrible you should believe them.
Yes I can.
I literally witnessed my closest friend pushing back against some of his friends on my talking points. He wants racist or an idiot, he’d been lied to and pointed to the wrong people as the enemy. Now after me working on him for months on end he sees that he was wrong and how the media manipulated him and will push back against others.
I can see a time when he himself converts someone else and perhaps they will also pay it forward.
As I asked the other person, what’s the point on you commenting on political stuff if not to change minds? Otherwise it’s just stroking your ego.
No excuses anymore. They all have access to the same information we all do. They CHOOSE to ignore to not look anything up. Its not about being ‘critically.online’ cringe, its about being able to think critically and not believing eveeything you see on the internet. No excuses for stupidity anymore.
I really hope more magats start having some self awareness. The hubris is so blatant that even total idiots can see through it

Yeah the whole “he’s the antichrist” (I’m guessing that’s what that means, idk shit about religion) at the end still makes my stomach turn cos it’s so moronic to me to actually believe something like that
I’d rather them believe that than not, we can’t afford to be picky about our allies right now
They won’t. Think of it this way, there were so many people saying COVID was a liberal hoax as they were laying on their death beds unable to breathe.
at least one said it must be cancer instead, like that is any better.
When even that dumb broad Marjorie Taylor Green starts running her mouth against her Cheeto-Jesus, you know there’s a glimmer of hope.
Of course, she does it entirely out of her own selfish interests: she is personally impacted by Trump’s shenanigans. She doesn’t really give a fuck about her constituents, or even basic decency. But if that’s what it takes to have one less Trump enabler, I’ll take it.
She was also just a true believer. Not like Vance or Jim Jordan or many others who just go along with it to get ahead. There’s a reason those cretins believe everything.
This northern Virginia federal prosecutor is also a true believer. She thinks she earned that position.
trump also campaigned on releasing the epstein files, the magats wer hoping to see every detail of it, instead they are getting nothing. the only ones that dont care are the ones that arnt following the news, i know someone of the latter.
They’ll still vote for a Republican next time (if there is a next time) because they’re stupid and hateful

“Yeah, I do think that Donald Trump is that beast of Revelation 13:3.”
Man they just can’t help themselves but to continue being dumbshits even as they come around to the Trump grift can they.
I know it’s highly subjective, and highly open to interpretation, but I think you’d be surprised at how many ‘beast of Revelation’ checkboxes Trump fills in. It would be comical if not so real.
That is indeed wild.
Nothing personal, but I won’t even bother looking at that. I grew up in the middle of a bunch of end times crap, I don’t need to refresh my memory. It’s a waste of time and that’s my biggest problem with all these losers: they waste unimaginable amounts of time, energy and capital pursuing this bullshit instead of dealing with the real world. Imagine where we could be if absolute idiots like this guy, former CEO of Intel put their energy into something actually fucking useful instead of some ancient bullshit written by goat herders several thousand years ago.
you know not all people who follow God are like the very…odd people in the USA. Donald Trump is a very evil man.
he talked a good game
Did he though?
He did if you’re stupid and bigoted.

Well the games these fighters usually play is brute force, suckerpunching and dull stamina. In the rethorical arena that is kind of Donalds game plan.
Though I’m unsure if that was the metaphor Mitchell was crafting here.
Good enough to swindle millions of people.
Everything this guy says is proof that it’s not good to get hit in the head for a living.
On the positive side, if he can set the truth then there is hope for others. Not much hope, I give you that, but some.
Hmmm…
One of its heads seemed to have received a death-blow, but its mortal wound had been healed. In amazement the whole earth followed the beast.
Revelation 13:3
It’s sort of hilarious to me how much shit actually lines up.
It also describes Hitler and other fascist leaders who had setbacks along the way.
Yeah but Trump was (allegedly!) actually shot in the head
Lmao I’m gonna send this to my religious relatives.
But a problem here is this guy is upset that he helped ukrain, like Biden did. Was he supposed to not help Ukraine then this guy would be happy.
Mayhaps. Who know with the twisted way their minds work. Or more accurately don’t work
He doesn’t even seem to know about the billions given to Venezuela millionaires
fox and grifters would never report on it, even if they did they wouldnt frame it in a way that skews thier perceptions.
This is the one piece of weirdly uplifting news I needed to hear. If a bigoted idiot can see the writing on the wall, then there’s hope for us all
He’ll still endorse Trump or his republican replacement in 2028. Just wait and see.
As far as I understand it, it’s not like he regrets his bigotry or anything. He just regrets believing Trump would do anything about it. He’s mad that Trump isn’t fucking the right people in other words.
Which is, genuinely, progress.
He was voting for a guy who he thought embodied his (fucked up) values, and is now becoming aware that the guy only values himself and fucks everyone. Hopefully next time he will vote for a politician he can actually trust, and actually reflects his (bigoted) values at a meaningful level.
He drew the line at Epstein and sending tax money to Israel/Ukraine. I’m actually impressed he noticed that that line had been crossed
“Yeah, I do think that Donald Trump is that beast of Revelation 13:3.”
“…and I love it! Hell I’ll vote for it again!”
Nero (the Roman Emperor) was the beast of Revelation
fucking christians, learn your own fucking code
Oh Nero the Emperor! I always thought it was talking about Nero the CD burning software. Seems obvious now.
Nero fiddled as Rome was burnt onto a CD-RW.
Nero Burning ROM was titled after Nero burning Rome.
Excuse me say what?! The old logo even shows a burning Coliseum and I still never put it together.
Jesus fucking christ… I always suspected I was dumb, but I didn’t realize it was this bad. I’m going back to licking windows, this is too much
Me and you gonna have some clean windows.
Lol I love those moments where you find something that is easy to overlook if you don’t think about it, but kind of a duh once you take a second to process.
I’m 54 and the revelations never fucking end. It’s a daily struggle.
To live is to struggle it seems. No worries though, at least we can keep each other company on the struggle bus.
Toot toot! Get in loser, we crying
Ooo, where can I read more on that? I’ll just google it if you don’t have a specific link you like. That’s the first I’ve heard that.
there’s a lot of writing about how the Christians were coding their language at this time because writing about the god king was sure to be death, especially if you’re trying to warn others
Anyways the code for number of the beast, 666 or 616 was basically Nero. He killed a lot of Christians. Revolations is code for the prediction of the fall of Rome
be real and think of that bronze age world and consider how much Rome controlled the world of people who could read and write. It was something very special to write a long message. It would be something that stands out like a big screen tv does to us. they had to hid meaningful things inside fantastic stories so when their caught, they have a way out
Definitely makes sense, I don’t know enough of this kind of history.
I kinda wrote history as a subject off because all my schools focused on wars and not much else. So “history” felt like a bunch of wars and almost all of them were some variation of people in power wanting to show off their micro PPs with a few important revolutionary wars sprinkled in where the common people got sick of the people in power.
So I’m lacking in my “important details of history” knowledge that really help frame conditions as they are now. Appreciate the info, gonna go look up more.
Just start with Wikipedia there’s no single source, it’s pretty widely recognized.
Fair enough, thanks!
Hold my beer, I’m going in
I’ll admit, hearing this dude say all of this is quite cathartic, but Jesus Christ. You’d have to be a goddamned moron to believe Trump after seeing what he does. Sure, yeah he talks a good game, but it’s been backed up with zero follow-through for the entire extent of his life. He’s a fucking landlord for Christ sakes. What more do you need to know?
Equating Ukraine with Israel shows how little this guy has changed his moronic bigoted views though.
“No foreign aid, America first” is at least a consistent policy I suppose
Probably taken quite a few punches to the head. It tracks, unfortunately
A LOT of people just take grifters at their word. “How could they be so confident if they were wrong?” type deal
My brain hurts from reading this
He talked a good game
No he didn’t. You’re just incapable of thinking critically. ESPECIALLY since we already saw what a phony he was the first time he was in office. There was no possible way to be “fooled” at that point unless you’re so full of hate that you WANT to be fooled.
It’s even worse.
He wasn’t fooled. He knew very well what he signed up for. And he was fine with it until things personally affected him. And now he claims he was “fooled”.
Nah, he’s the same racist, Nazi supporting piece of shit he’s been for the past ~10-12 years at least, but now that it’s negatively affecting his life, he’s trying to leave the sinking ship.
This rhetoric might feel good, but its counterproductive. Someone changing their minds is a good thing. Its also not wrong to say Trump is a propaganda machine.
Everytime I see a post like yours, it reads far more like “look how good a person I am and have been for so long, where’s my up votes?”.
That was the point in the article where I just started laughing. Imagine telling the entire internet you’re just gullible as fuck, willing to be swayed by someone’s cheap words. Basically an open invite for con artists to flirt with him.
this is how conservatives are swindled by scams, like crypto so easily.
It’s interesting that there’s still no self awareness and no personal responsibility - like: “it was written all over the wall but I was blind to see it because of my biases and judgments”. Instead it was “I was lied to”.
That’s the only path to getting these people turned around. They’ve, rightly, been called cultists and fascists. Keep telling them they’re wrong, they double down. We already saw this the first time around.
I’m very forthcoming when I’m wrong, but I still have an easier time saying I was bamboozled than plain stupid.
That’s how I see it.
There’s also something that folks forget about people that get suckered in like this: It’s not their first rodeo.
Imagine you’re someone that gets below average marks in school, makes a lot of simple mistakes, and has to work to meet average expectations in life. All this gets called out and checked a lot by people that seem to be having an easier time at everything. A lesson the world teaches people like this is: never admit you screwed up, because maybe this time nobody noticed. It’s an environment where you just get emotionally beat up if you don’t protect yourself. So, to me at least, it’s not a surprise that a lot of people react to being called out by defending their ego every way they know how.
That’s a fresh and compassionate perspective, thank you.
The issue is that they haven’t learned a damn thing. So we’re not out of the woods. They’ll vote in another T like person/administration because former cult members are attracted to cult leaders. I need to start accepting that for the rest of my life, us will be an extra shitty place to live in.
Re-educate who you can, help the lost the best you can, educate the young as if humanity depends on it. Ignorance isn’t a lack of ability, but often due to lack of some resource. You’ll never sit in the shade of the trees you plant, and that’s also something we all need to accept
How is it wrong to say they were lied to? Trump consistently says if we do awful things, the results won’t be awful they will be amazing.any of these republicans have to go against their local community if they disagree as well, there is a lot of resistance. Try to have some empathy here as surely you are ignorant about something sue to circumstance as well, and I’m sure you would want to be treated positively if you were to realize your mistake.
