This is how crime reporting in the US works too. There isn’t a connection really between crime rates and news reporting, the news media broadly choose to focus on certain types of crimes because they serve the interests of their owners and/or are popular with their audiences. There’s decades of polling showing Americans largely have never had any idea what the actual risks are of crime.

That Hiltzik guy in the email is conveniently now the “crisis manager” for the ex-Microsoft executive who was exposed in the Epstein files for using Epstein to extract a $14 million dollar golden parachute out of Microsoft when he got fired for Windows 8 sucking. It’s incredible how interconnected the Epstein class is, it’s a small world for them.

To some extent but it’s really not that important. Oil gets traded for all kinds of things besides dollars, it’s never been so big a deal that the US would engineer a very dumb war over it. Maybe there were some for whom it was a motivating factor in their support for attacking Iraq, but by and large the animating force was not concern about what currency Iraqi oil exports are traded for. It makes no real difference to anything, it’s not significant.
There isn’t really any reason to think the Fediverse won’t be used for AI training, if it isn’t already. Everything is in the open here, it’s easy enough to scrape all the data.

I have a Plex server guy. He is one of my oldest and best friends although we don’t get to hang out much anymore. I know he has other friends he shares the Plex server with but I have no idea who or how many. I’ve been using it since Plex was new, not sure how long exactly but more than a decade. I occasionally buy him nice hard drives because the library is ridiculously huge and always growing. As someone who loves weird and obscure shit, it’s my favorite streaming service by far and he’s my hero for running it.

It appears they decided to attack him for trying to help that woman get back up after they attacked her. He obviously doesn’t have a gun drawn and is getting beaten by multiple people when they start shooting. This looks like murder.
It doesn’t take a million shell commands or sketchy scripts to deploy Windows without a Microsoft account. I literally did it just last week. I think you are being pedantic and moving the goal posts, the claim was that you need a Microsoft account to use Windows and that is not true. You may be coerced into using one depending on the version and install method but that’s not the original claim that was made.

You do understand that official setup requirements is not the same thing? Whatever Microsoft tries to force during a setup process doesn’t change the fact that I am literally using Windows multiple times per week without any Microsoft account so claims it’s impossible are untrue.

This is insane. I am using Windows without a Microsoft account regularly. It is 100% possible. I hate Microsoft too but it’s completely ridiculous to go around spreading obvious bullshit like this.

Random super markets can license access to their data. I could easily imagine a company like Palantir or Flock leveraging systems like these in their government contracting. Whether or not these things are privately owned by creepy corporations or under the direct control of a government agency feels like a distinction without a difference, either way the infrastructure of totalitarianism is being constructed around us with these technologies.
