don’t forget back room deals!

if this guy was still in charge, he’d probably encourage more people to travel to the games because “seats might become available suddenly”

I think removing their union protections (I’m a union member and I don’t think they should be afforded the same types of protections since they’re not labor, they’re the armed section of government who are the only ones allowed to use force on the citizens) and making them carry insurance would be a start. Then, moving their budget to do something about the fact that so many of their calls are to deal with mental health crises which they’re not trained for. Plus, for as large as their budgets are, I’d expect better results in solving crimes. Lots of police departments average something like 25% solve rate which includes things like when people turn themselves in.

I hope all their future meals taste like piss and flies

I like how the AP describes it as “scrapes on his head” and the whiny bastard claimed he was “literally lynched” at the protest. People like him deserve much worse than what he got

it’s funny that in a country where we have a Second Amendment right to bear arms (and the police are dressed/armed as though that’s their normal everyday interaction) yet a sandwich is seen as a threat.

am I supposed to believe that those cans are holy hand grenades?

I just started it today!

The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie. (Ebook) I keep trying to find books in the Fantasy genre that I enjoy reading. hopefully this will be the one that gets me there.
Polostan by Neal Stephenson. Bought this one blind because I like every one of the author’s books that I’ve read. They’re usually filled with math and or philosophy and he does a great job of explaining things in the context of the book, so I’m excited to get into this one and feel dumb for a while until I pick up whatever he’s putting down.
I just finished (today) both Dark Matter by Blake Crouch and The Man Who Died Seven Times by Yasuhiko Nishizawa.

just finished it today and I gave it 3.75/5. Mostly because I felt like the ending was just okay. If I explained my gripes with the end, it’d get deep into spoilers but if you enjoy reading for the ride and not the destination, it’s pretty good. If you need a book to stick the landing, maybe pass.

it’s pretty good so far. it’s mostly fast paced with a few slower, introspective chapters. There are a few fun ideas in the book so far (according to my app I’m 66% of the way through the book) and I’d like to see them explored a little more, but it’s been an easy read for me.
I’ll also say that I’d likely be done with the book if I wasn’t deliberately slowing myself for the sake of the reading group. I am at a point now that I might just end up finishing it because I won’t be able to put it down.

I thought it was the funniest thing when I visited Chicago that while driving, nobody moved to the right lane for police cars but everyone moved over for fire trucks and ambulances.

normally I like to read only one book at a time but trying to branch out, so I’m reading two. A physical book and an ebook. I still struggle with audiobooks, so I’m avoiding that. Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy I just finished like 10 minutes ago and I loved it. A story of love, loss, family and a warming planet. All wrapped up in a mystery set on a remote island where the next ship isn’t expected for several weeks. what’s not to love?
and
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. I’m only a few chapters into this book, trying to read it at a group’s pace and I’m pretty sure I’m going to just blow through the whole book soon. Especially now that I’ve finished my other book. but I’ll pick up a new one later today, which may help

not to mention, I saw a news report where people went to the parade just because of their ties to the army, and not to see the presidential nonsense.
Their clothes always have the logos of their donors on them. The bigger the donation, the bigger, and more prominent the logo.
the Super Bowl is just a bunch of burly guys pressing tightly against another group of burly guys trying to prove who is best at handling balls all to win jewelry and a purse.
