What fresh hell is this? Everyone was raving about brave as the best privacy browser not long ago. What happened?

When I ask the younger devs at work about their code they often tell me what they asked Claude to do instead of telling me what their code does. It’s so frustrating.

"For basically nothing’… If it’s basically nothing then use your damn brain to do it.

I envy those that can retire soon. I’m halfway through my career, not enough money to retire yet.

AI is the worst thing that ever happened to software engineering. I’m actually reviewing my options for getting out of it.

Nothing. I do my best to keep my data private but I don’t let it deny me life experiences. If I did, that would be another form of power that our surveillance overlords would have over me. Fuck them.

I’ll probably get down voted into oblivion for saying that in this forum but this is where I’m at.

First they forced us back to the office despite a mountain of evidence showing hybrid work is more productive.

Now they’re forcing us to use AI even if it’s pure garbage.

I’m so sick of these micromanaging, power-tripping buffoons. I can’t wait to retire.

Am I the only one that doesn’t have enough going on in their life that can be automated by agenetic AI? I mean, if I had an AI-powered robot that can do my cooking and cleaning that would be helpful, but other than that I just don’t have anything for it to do.

This is even dumber than tracking how many lines of code each dev commits.

20 years ago (yes, I’m old) we called it Microshaft Winblows. Perhaps it’s time to resurrect that.

I’m running ai on an old 1080 ti. You can run ai on almost anything, but the less memory you have the smaller (ie. dumber) your models will have to be.

As for the “how”, I use Ollama and Open WebUI. It’s pretty easy to set up.
