politics @lemmy.world•Senate shutdown deal stalls over Graham objection
6·7 days agoThe Senate is on track to pass a government funding package Friday afternoon after Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told colleagues that he will release his hold on the massive spending bill if he gets a vote on legislation to crack down on sanctuary cities.
Either allow senators to sue if they’re under investigation, or ramp up the war on sanctuary cities.
What a cock

politics @lemmy.world•Senate shutdown deal stalls over Graham objection
31·8 days agoGraham pointed to language in the bill that would repeal a provision allowing senators to sue if their phone records were collected as part of former special counsel Jack Smith’s probe.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the dumbest/silliest reason you got in trouble for in school?
13·23 days agoIn 8th grade English class we had to write a short essay for homework (this was before most families had a computer, so it was hand written). I’m lefty, and the ink from my pen smudged (iykyk). In front of the whole class she called me out for sloppy work and said I’d receive a 0. So I asked how, as a lefty, I could prevent that from happening. She gave me 3 days of detention for talking back to her. When my mom found out, she called the school and spoke with the principal, who happened to be a lefty. He reversed course, saying detention for this was ridiculous, as well as suggested pens he uses that smudge a lot less.
Another time, in high school, I was in art class. Everyone would keep their sketchbooks in the desks rather than take them home. One day, someone drew a bunch of swastikas all over mine, and then reported me. Originally, I was going to be expelled. After explaining I didn’t draw them, and how anyone could access the book, they reduced it to 3 days suspension. After my mom got involved, it was reduced (“reduced”) to 10 days of detention. This was catholic school, so detention was kneeling for an hour in front of a wall.
Also in catholic school, I got detention for arguing with my theology teacher that eating eggs means he supports abortion. I deserved and enjoyed detention that day.
… I got in trouble a lot in catholic school
I’d love to, but I was just a lurker. I have the artistic talent of a potato :(
There was a subreddit that I really miss called something like “whatsthiscookiecutter”, where people would post a cookie cutter they couldn’t figure out. People would create all sorts of weird, random, and funny drawings.

6·28 days agoHonestly I don’t think the driver even noticed the guy walking in front of the car - she was likely concentrating on the guy trying to open her door while the killer, for whatever reason, walked in front of a moving car. There are wild animals with more sense than that…

I don’t quite see it as inaction, as it’s a step forward. But it’s a very, very small step forward, and quite disappointing

News@lemmy.world•House will vote to undo provision letting senators sue over Jan. 6-related searches
13·3 months agoRep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., one of two Republicans who voted against the legislation, vented his frustrations with the process that led to the provision being included, and the fact that House Republicans were being asked to vote for the bill regardless.
“That does nothing to change the fact that certain senators will get paid an additional $500k of taxpayer money. The Senate will never take up your ‘standalone’ bill,” he wrote on X in response to Johnson. “This is precisely why you shouldn’t let the Senate jam the House.”
Ugh
