Thanks! Unfortunately, my region’s already set to United States and I’ve restarted my phone, so I guess it’s just a bug with the beta and I’ll have to just wait until the next update comes out.
Thanks again!

1·3 years agoGotcha. I haven’t been in the loop with beehaw and shitjustworks and everything like that, but I could picture that kind of drama happening.
The Threads stuff is also hella wack, people seem to have a ton of heavy opinions about it.
I do think the ability to filter different communities and stuff out is really valuable. I’ve had a few friends who (understandably) had pretty negative opinions on Reddit long before the API stuff, but I think a big part that they missed is how easily you could curate your Reddit feed, which made my experience much better. I did delete my Reddit account, but I wouldn’t find it unreasonable to believe that Reddit’s fairly the same way it was before the protest since lots of people still stick around and are just casual users who don’t care too much (and I don’t really blame them haha).

1·3 years agoJeez, lots of comments to look through! I’ll definitely take a peek some more but a pattern that I’ve noticed from the few comments I’ve skimmed through is that it seems like a lot of toxic people do show up, it’s just that individual instances are good at removing them.
I also haven’t been on Lemmy as much as I was on Reddit before I left, and I’m on a fairly small instance, so I guess that explains the lack of bigotry in my feed haha.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do you believe Lemmy/Mastodon can become mainstream and fully replace their centralized counterparts?
29·3 years agoI don’t think it’ll really become mainstream because honestly, a lot of people on Reddit and other platforms don’t really care about changes to the platforms. It’s frustrating but in the end, they’re just casual users and it won’t affect them that much, and that’s ok, we don’t need every single person to be an expert, yk. I do like the way the decentralized internet is now.
Also surprisingly haven’t come across bigotry yet haha.

Lemmy.World Announcements@lemmy.world•Reddit CEO: We're Sticking With API Changes, Despite Subreddits Going Dark
19·3 years agoAgreed, but it’s 48 hours later, and it seems like more and more subreddits have decided to continue protesting indefinitely, which I’m really happy to see. I too have no clue how effective it’ll be, but it’s showing a much clearer message.

This is the kind of thing more appropriate for an UnethicalLifeProTips community lol.
