Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Trustworthy websites with recommendations, reviews, discussions about VPN, DNS, and similar?English
5·6 days agoWith that kind of usage you may get banned so just watch out.
As recently as this month https://old.reddit.com/r/Windscribe/comments/1q5py5w/how_much_is_too_much/
That said, I agree that windscribe is great. If your usage is less than say 10tb per month you’re probably fine. I regularly do a couple terabytes and no problems. Plus they have port forwarding, and even port forwarding without a static ip

An instance thot should be the fediverse version of an insta thot
If you can find a cheap Xbox 360 the soft modding scene is also very good these days with BadUpdate and BadAvatar

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Could I watch live sports on cloud stream?English
4·18 days agoThere used to be a plugin that offered some live sports providers but it was always iffy and only worked some of the time. I’m not sure it’s maintained anymore either

4·1 month agoI can’t imagine this will make Nvidia much money at all. The vast, vast majority of people aren’t playing more than 100 hours of videogames a month but having a tagline that you can play as much as you want is a very attractive offer to a consumer, at least to me.

Technology@lemmy.world•Apple announces more ads are coming to App Store search resultsEnglish
3·1 month agoTitle is complete clickbait. Conflating GDP and market cap is nonsensical
Edit: another article comparing apple revenue to country GDP puts it 41st if it were a country which is still massive and makes a little more sense as a metric https://www.androidauthority.com/apple-revenue-vs-country-gdp-3412922/
In addition to what everyone else said, if you are hosting a server, authlib-injector is a thing that switches the auth server from Mojang to something else, meaning that there is actual verification of identity beyond just username.
Multiyggdrasil is a fork of that that lets you use both Mojang and another auth server for maximum compatibility and security with friends.
As someone who has run an offline mode server, it’s a question of when, not if, you get griefed
I’m sorry for being a bad person.

Uplifting News@lemmy.world•Namibia loses bid to overturn ban on rhino horn tradeEnglish

Uplifting News@lemmy.world•Namibia loses bid to overturn ban on rhino horn tradeEnglish
1·2 months agoThe article does a good job to show both perspectives but I have to imagine that flooding the market with rhino horn would reduce poaching since poaching is surely quite expensive. The extra revenue could be used for conservation too.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Do not update single packages on Archlinux, but
2·4 months agoTo add to the other comment, package managers keep a local copy of the list of available packages and the version. When you do a
pacman -S xxxthe package manager looks up xxx in the cache and downloads the package from whatever mirror youre using as well as any dependencies, looking them up in the same way from your cache. This works for a while even if theres a new update available because mirrors usually keep a few previous versions.Once you do a
pacman -Syyou update your cache to the latest one. If you then update xxx, it will update xxx and pull in any dependency updates required, but any other packages that depended on the same packages dont get updated, leaving you in a partially upgraded state.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL about Dunning Kruger Effect - why people with low competence overestimate and people with high competence underestimate themselves.English
2·5 months agoI dont understand. The additional experiment data is fairly convincing, but the random data example doesnt seem to disprove the effect in itself. With random data you are going to get a predicted score of 50 for every group, which is what is shown, but this seems to still indicate that, if this is really what people predicted, that low skill people are overestimating their ability. Obviously random data would exhibit the effect; why should it not?
Edit: i think i get it. The random data doesnt show that the low performers dont underestimate and the high performers dont overestimate on average, but this is the natural result if everyone has no idea how they performed. Thus my question above is exactly what they are trying to say; if everyone predicts randomly (everyone equally bad at predicting) the effect arises. So there might be no relashionship between performance prediction and performance
