Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Microsoft doing shady Microsoft stuff againEnglish
17·7 months agoSwitched to Ubuntu completely this year and I think it’s finally ready. There are still issues, there are always going to be issues, but at least I get to choose which apps I want to use.
Windows 11 is just objectively terrible. It’s Microsoft turning your power bill into their profit.

18·9 months agoIt’s the same schtick you hear from pedophiles in defense of their child sex dolls and it’s unsurprising to see it coming from rule34 in particular considering they serve up a lot of that content in cartoon form.

Technology@lemmy.world•Linux Reaches 5% Desktop Market Share In USAEnglish
14·9 months agoI put Ubuntu on my year old Windows laptop and to my surprise, everything is just better. I mean better than Windows AND better than Linux ever was before when I used it previously. I wouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing some major manufacturers shipping PCs with Ubuntu pre-loaded in the coming years.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Neighbour is deliberately harassing my family by blasting the radio on subwoofers in every room from 7:30 AM till 11:30 AM every day. Can anything be done about this? Me and my family are at wit's endEnglish
56·11 months agoOk, I have been in this situation. I was the crazy schizophrenic neighbour.
This does not go well for you unless you avail yourself of every avenue to protect yourself. This person is mentally ill and their illness causes them to have delusions about your brother and your family. Whatever they are hearing is making them think that they need to react by terrorizing you. In their mind they are protecting themselves. It is very possible that this escalates to violence.
You need to communicate regularly with the police and ask if there is a community mental health liason officer who you can be put into contact with. You need to keep a journal of every communication back and forth and every action the neighbour takes against you. Over time keep building a case until you can have the police detain them under whatever mental health laws you have.
You also need to supply a constant stream of documentation of the behaviour to your landlord. They can take action to preserve their property in the face of a mental illness that very well might burn it down.
I’m really sorry this is happening to you. Feel sorry for your neighbour if you want but advocate for yourselves and your needs first here.
Get them to check your thyroid levels, that’s what it was when I was feeling similar at 24. It took years for me to feel normal and have energy again but it’s treatable.
I was losing hair in the shower, I had dry skin on my arms and bad dandruff and I was exhausted all the time even after a large dose of aderall in the mornings. My TSH was 20 when it’s supposed to be below 6.

News@lemmy.world•Progressives Say GOP's H-1B Visa Feud Distracts From Real Problem: 'Billionaire Robber Barons'English
12·1 year agoYes, the issue is billionaire robber barons, AND the issue is that they are importing cheap labor to replace Americans, AND the cheap labor is suppressing wages for Americans. It’s even worse than the TFW program in Canada as it applies to skilled labor that is available in the US, but more expensive.
Vitaminwater in Canada is sugar-free so I’m surprised to learn it’s full sugar in the states. I definitely grab them here and there when I’m at the hospital for an appointment or looking for something that won’t fuck with the ol’ diabetes in the store.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Would Kamala Harris have won the 2024 election if Latinos didn't shift hard to the right?English
52·1 year agoOh no doubt in my mind it’s the same as the stockholm syndrome afflicted gay men who were all over social media supporting Trump. It doesn’t matter what the Republican party does or says, men in the US want to support it and delude themselves that they aren’t it’s targets.
If you use Tumblr to get pictures of handsome working men / military men / etc, you see a lot of this crap coming from the same accounts sharing hot dudes. Gay men decrying “wokeism” and hating on trans people and immigrants.
Being gay unfortunately does not correllate with intelligence.

Please keep the smooth brains and their “seeds” out of our fields, thanks.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•McDonald's Experience by non McDonald's patron.English
331·2 years agoMcDonald’s has been on the decline since I worked there 13 years ago. What you’re reporting as dry and overcooked is actually food that has been hot held long past the time it should have been thrown out. You can’t even get a burger patty that has been cooked within the past two hours most of the time unless you’re there during peak times.

5·2 years agoI work for a digital display company, and it is definitely redundancy. There will be at least two redundant display systems that go to the modules separately so they can switch between them to solve issues. If a component fails on one side they just switch to the other.

I like snaps. The nextcloud snap served me well for a decade at my last job. The ability to put everything required into one snap package and never modify the base system is awesome.
