Maybe Fishmans? I also prefer Carrie & Lowell live over the studio version.

4·3 years agoBanger of a song, and their only song after Whenever, If Ever that I really care about.
It makes me so happy when I see someone else recommending Brìghde! I got sold on The Reeling years ago because I read about it on Quietus, and she has been a fav of mine ever since.

Music@beehaw.org•What are some of your favorite rock bands?
1·3 years agoRadiohead! Proceed with caution, not all of their albums are rock music.
I’m one of the weirdos buying into the hype of black midi, BCNR and Squid as well. Give them a shot. black midi is probably the most experimental of the bunch.
There’s also Interpol, Arcade Fire, The National: the usual suspects. Dismemberment Plan, The Mars Volta, Porcupine Tree. Some more recent indie rock: Pinegrove, Hop Along, Indigo de Souza.
Your mileage may vary, of course, but they’re some of my favorites.
I think it’s literally just Rivers Cuomo trying to write good pop tunes and failing

2·3 years agoAbsolutely fantastic song, and somehow not even the best track on that album.

2·3 years agoOf course, I don’t mind listening to the occasional album that’s outside my tastes, if there’s some historical or cultural significance to it. Which seems to be what the list is going for. Plus, 1001 is a LOT of albums, there’s bound to be some duds.

1·3 years agoListened to From Elvis In Memphis today as per this website’s suggestion. I didn’t enjoy it as much as his debut album, but there were a couple of great songs on it regardless (I wasn’t a huge fan of In The Ghetto, surprisingly).

1·3 years agoI’ve always found it interesting that I cannot stand Nine Inch Nails on my BT headphones, but I really enjoy The Downward Spiral on my father’s good studio headphones.

1·3 years agoThose are all fair points! I guess my priorities are just different, in the sense that I care about the convenience of having to carry just one device in my pocket.
On the topic of audiophiles, does quality really have such a big effect on the enjoyability of a song? Personally I’m perfectly fine with listening to 320kbps or even 256kbps through Bluetooth headphones.

2·3 years agoI see very little reason to use these over a regular smartphone 🤔 but the same is true for watches and people still rock those as well, so you do you! It does look like a nifty gadget.

Music@beehaw.org•Do you listen to any new bands? Or just same as 10 years ago?
1·3 years agoSigned up today, got an awesome Aretha Franklin album to listen to. Excited for tomorrow’s album already!

1·3 years agoPretty much anything that sounds like Steely Dan.
Damn I never really looked into the meanings of the songs on that album, even though I quite enjoy it. Got any more insights?
Any recommendations? I only know AJJ

1·3 years ago#TuneTuesday A song by Linkin Park #ThatIsActuallyGood is Breaking the Habit. The instrumentation on the choruses is a little underwhelming and not as explosive as it could have been, but I’ve always loved the vocal melodies on the song.

Music@beehaw.org•What song is currently living rent free in your head?
1·3 years agoGotta admit I’ve also been sleeping on Room on Fire, been too preoccupied with Is This It and The New Abnormal.
The self-titled album felt like the story of an innocent boy, Helplessness Blues felt like that boy was heading out into the big world, and Crack-Up feels like the consequences of that, and the loss of innocence.
Fool’s Errand is one of the best tracks on that record for sure.
