That is so cool! Did a bit of searching, this looks like like a good place to start. I’m not visually impaired, but am still very interested in learning to echolocate!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's this thing stuck on my dirty underwear? Is it a piece of undissolved tide pod?
2·1 year agoI hadn’t seen that before, that is interesting. These detergent sheets are quite a bit cheaper though, and have no plastic in the product or packaging. We love them!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's this thing stuck on my dirty underwear? Is it a piece of undissolved tide pod?
10·1 year agoLooks like it. We use dissolvable sheets for laundry soap, toss them in like a pod. No plastic, and short washes on cold leave no residue. And if it’s a smaller load just you can just rip a sheet in half and leave it in the box. Plus they are super cheap. We’ve been using them for a couple of years, love them!

Technology@lemmy.world•Watch: A real-life flying car takes to the skiesEnglish
4·1 year agoAirbags are not forbidden in aircraft. They just haven’t been considered to offer enough safety benfit for their weight and cost in most cases. That is starting to change though, and airbags integrated into aircraft seatbelts are becoming more common. They can be found in first class in a number of commercial aircraft, and are sold to be retrofitted into private planes.

There are many reasons I doubt this car will make it into commercial production, but the airbags will be OK.

News@lemmy.world•1st US case of bird flu in a pig raises concerns over potential human threat
2·1 year agoThere is a vaccine for chickens and turkeys for the bird flu. But poultry barns only use it when there are already outbreaks in their area, they don’t consider the cost worth it most of the time. And no one is giving it to wild birds.
I always saw it as being part of messing with the kids, he looks at the warning lights on top of the fence first. And for my headcannon at least, Grant is savvy enough to know that’s no way to test if the fence is live or not, lol.
Tiles are great, I’d love to have a roof last 100 years. But they don’t get as much use here because of issues with ice damning up the bottom edge and pooling water up under the tile, which then freezes and expands and dislodges or damags the tile. That can be overcome, but it’s easier and cheaper to use shingles.
A fiberglass mat core with asphalt around it and grit stuck in the asphalt on the top.
And the person who found it isn’t doing a good job either, putting new shingles over old. The old should be removed.
The first change needs to be teams pay for their own stadiums instead of them being taxpayer funded from cites and states. I don’t care if it will drive tourism, use that money to take care of the purple in the city and make the city a nice place, even make it a nice place for a stadium, but make the team owners/pro leagues pay for their own damn stadium.

News@lemmy.world•An inmate’s body temp was 107.5 when he died. The state of Texas says heat did not kill him.
51·2 years agoMetric measuring systems are superior in almost every use case, with the exception, I think, of how temperature feels to us. As arbitrary as Fahrenheit seems, it does seem like a more natural scale to talk about the weather or body temp. The smaller units are nice for these purposes too. 0 being very cold and 100 being very hot feels less arbitrary than -18 and 38, even if celcius is more logical and easier to use for many other things.

It looks cool, but that is a horrible handle. You want it to be wood or plastic so it dampens vibrations as much as it can, and smooth so one hand can slide down the handle from near the head to your other hand at the end as you swing. A couple minutes breaking up concrete with that and your hands would be numb, tingly, and probably bloody. Gloves would help, but using this will always suck.
