I run Mint with Cinnamon on my Desktop PC and Debian with Gnome on a mini PC. I use the latter as a server and disabled the GUI, but Gnome was hard to get used to. I use my PC for casual gaming, browsing, and casual Python development. I am not a Linux power user but pretty familiar with the terminal. Setting up native Python without relying on UV/conda on Debian was a nightmare, but I guess that’s an edge case. I really love Linux Mint, and I also really like Cinnamon.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why can people see who upvotes and who downvoted post on Lemmy?English
20·4 days agoThat’s true, but I think this is more of a development thing than an actual aim of Lemmy. Due to the nature of federation, everything must be open. As the Software is strongly inspired by Reddit, transparent votes is something that is technically exposed via the API but not yet implemented in the UI. But I think any app developer could integrate this into their app if they liked. It seems like Mbin chose a different path way.
In general, there is no congruent sentiment in Lemmy development, but I agree there should be one or it should be discussed with the community. Have you looked if there is an already ongoing discussion on git?
I care more about PieFed, but I don’t know how they look on the topic though.

261·4 days agoI was sceptic of the open concept at first. But now I find it appealing, because comment and post history are also public. If people wanted, they could probably extract my living place, job, sexual preferences and political opinions from my comment history of 1,000 comments. So why hide the up- and down votes?
Because the original comment specifically asked what happened, if the victim was shot in the head from behind.
Black and white image or the group would be totally out of context.
Huh? I think I was misunderstood here. In no way I wanted to downplay US gestapo here. I just wanted to tell the difference between these two images: In the first one a person seems to be forced to kneel in order to get executed by a shot in the head. The second image was already described by you very well.

131·5 days agoSo you prefer the alternative multipolar order in which the USA, China, Russia and (maybe) India project their will in their regional influence zones by strength. That is certainly a point of view.
From what I saw on videos they shot him from behind into his back. But it was not a scene of execution like here in the image, more like a fight situation.

2·7 days agoA popular app where you can share and split expenses with a group of people. It’s very useful for example when you are on vacation with 3 or more people and everybody pays something. At the end the app tells you how much everyone has to pay everyone back.
Split wise was great in the past, but it was enshittified pretty badly. That’s why alternatives are always welcome!

4·7 days agoI switched from Splitwise to Tricount long time ago. But I am really interested in this open source alternative. Anybody already got experiences with it?
It does. The only thing I miss compared to the Lemmy experience is that “auto fill title” does not work yet when link posting. However, most of the PieFed features aren’t integrated into Voyager yet, so it will be similar to the Lemmy experience but you will miss out a lot of PieFed stuff.

I disabled the graphical interface as I use the mini PC with Debian as a server and only ssh to it. I used Ubuntu with gnome at work for a couple of years (I could ignore it back then with the Ubuntu theme, which I liked more)
Never tried out KDE, I know it is very popular. But I am super happy with Cinnamon and I don’t see a reason to switch on my main PC. Of course I grew up with Windows, that may explain why I get along with Cinnamon so well…
