I have an original PinePhone. The phone itself is horribly outdated and slow, but the software itself (Phosh+Gnome) is suprisingly okay. Given a good enough phone (as in hardware) I can see myself actually using it and not being annoyed more than I was with early Androids.
Unfortunately what I understand is that FSFE doesn’t intend to do hardware, only software platform, so I wonder whether they’ll come up with anything interesting.

As for CAD itself, there’s a nonzero chance that someone already designed that part for themselves and you can download a ready model. If not, then by designing it yourself you’re acquiring a skill that can be useful again in the future and you can share that model with others to get that warm fuzzy feeling that you’ve helped strangers who had the same problem.

Linux phones made quite some progress in recent years. They still aren’t what I’d call consumer ready, but it’s getting there.
Every time I open up eShop I am astonished how the main place where I am supposed to pay money to Nintendo is literally the slowest, most annoying and unresponsive thing on Switch. I am literally astonished at how they have managed to make it that bad.

It uses systemd services. My understanding is that it aims to have the applications installed in the most straightforward way possible - avoiding containers where possible.
Looks like YunoHost, but hearing about the licensing issues, I’ll stick with YunoHost.

I did! Don’t expect too much stability out of it, but I was surprised to say that the latest version worked pretty stable and nicely for me. I can definitely recommend it.
Unpopular opinion: non-pro can handle the OS just fine and then some. Try out SailfishOS (unfortunately not OSS) - it’s as smooth as butter. Or UBPorts - it works great (unfortunately both Sailfish and UBPorts aren’t as polished when it comes to actual hardware support on PinePhone, but they show nicely what could be done). I don’t think I even need to mention Sxmo, which is no surprise that it works great, but its approach is definitely not for everyone.
It’s just Gnome/Plasma that are mainly developed for “big” computers and are pretty wasteful. But the situation is definitely improving.
