2·3 years agoWhatsApp is great at marketing their e2ee, but nobody talks about the fact that they have so many backdoors out in the wild - they’re found annually. See: How Jeff Bezos’s photos were hacked.

9·3 years agoKeep using SMS? What are Apple’s other alternatives, exactly? RCS is still a mess, the only way it has e2ee is if you use Google’s messaging app, and there’s no way you will see Apple adopting Google’s standard without having a say in it, and rightfully so - Google locks tons of proprietary features out of their APIs - EXIF data for Photos, Categories in Gmail, etc.
I think this is actually more of a comment on Google’s lack of direction with messaging - how many different messaging apps have they sunset by now? Half dozen or so? Messaging has always been a cluster on Android. WhatsApp is supposedly e2ee, but they have backdoor bugs being patched on a nearly basis - ask Jeff Bezos how his dick pics got hacked.

11·3 years agoOh c’mon now, Apple and iOS apps have too good of a user experience? That’s the issue? You call it “dumbing down software”, I call it implementing user experience research and design.

4·3 years agoAfter dabbling with Mastodon twitter clones for a few months, Lemmy seems so much easier to understand and get up and running and feeling like you’re part of a more active community than Mastodon was for me. I can pretty much tell anybody to go sign up at lemmy.world from a computer and they can figure it out for the most part.
Really impressed with wefwef - one of the few webapps that rivals a native app.

Apple@lemmy.world•iCloud Mail vs Google Mail - what are your opinions?
1·3 years agoJust so you’re aware, Google Photos doesn’t export EXIF location data, nor does it allow you to export the full resolution of your images. This is a huge issue! See: Google Photos Limitations

Google Maps for business search, Apple Maps for directions.
