Technology@lemmy.zip•Instagram boss says users will be ‘overwhelmed’ with brand content in algorithm-free worldEnglish
2·22 hours agoDomino’s has been doing it for years on Reddit, for example. Lots of “goofy” posts like the Domino’s driver dancing on a customers porch because they asked him to through their door-bell camera. Dumb stuff like that.
To say nothing about all the brand discussion about Marvels latest projects on their. 100% Disney is paying for an encouraging that pseudo-advertising behavior.

3·3 days agoThere was also reports that the FBI had anticipated the possibility of terrorist using explosive-laden jets to attack the towers but they assumed they’d use smaller private jets like gulf-streams and would use 4 or so to hit the towers. After 1993 lots of people knew the towers were a target. Lots of people that fled the towers on 9/11 had worked there during the 1993 bombing and instinctively knew something was off and they needed to get out of them ASAP.

4·3 days agoIt’s really just lazy writing. The WTC was attacked in 1993 so it was well known to be a target. Plus you had the OKC bombing a few years later which just confirmed that government structures were targets. Flying planes into stuff wasn’t a new idea either; the earliest cruise missiles were basically jets with some remote controls added to them and even suicide-pilots were an old idea by then (kamikaze’s in WW2.) And the idea of a plane crashing into the WTC wasn’t even that novel before the 1993 attack. There were numerous experts criticizing the possibility of a jet accidentally crashing into them when approaching the nearby airport, so much so they eventually tweaked the flight-lanes around Manhattan to limit the chance of an airliner hitting them in bad fog.
So to have a plot about some jerk remotely flying a jet into a famous skyscraper that had already been attacked once before isn’t all that surprising.
Probably because dark humor has its place, otherwise humans wouldn’t keep embracing it throughout history. In this case, juxtaposing Elon Musk jumping around like a child at a campaign rally over something tragic like a restaurant employee falling to his death on 9/11 tickles whatever dark-humor-neurons in our minds just right.
All that terrible country music did spoil the whole post-9/11 vibe.
