There’s no need to apologize for not getting a joke. As for the other bit, that’s just your personal experience and I’m actually sort of inclined to believe you there based on what I’ve heard.

It’s just a really old meme that all bri’ish people are ugly. Also a stereotype that they’re always looking for hot Baltic women (mostly prostitutes, really) when they’re having stag dos or whatever.

As for attractive Estonians - idk where you’re located, but I see tons of them. Granted, I’m looking at women. I hear men on dating apps are, eh… particularly horrible here. I’ve been shown some profiles. So if you’re looking at Estonian men on dating apps, I’ll have to agree, we’re pretty ugly. All the classically attractive male friends I have are in happy 10+ year relationships at this point, pretty much nobody’s even used Tinder.

1·11 hours agoIf someone’s going >10% over the speed limit, that means other people have to pass them, which is a dangerous maneuver. If they’re going the speed limit, only selfish people will pass them.
Police are literally allowed stop you for going 50-60 on a 90 km/h road here in the middle of the summer. It’s suspicious and a completely valid reason to check if you’re drunk.
around every turn that’s going 5 mph.
But
You can if it’s slippery or when there’s a corner. Not on a straight dry road with good visibility.
I literally said that corners (tight ones anyway) and poor visibility (which corners can cause) in general are valid excuses, in addition to the aforementioned ice. “I was scared of doing 90” is not. I think you’re lacking a little bit of reading comprehension. Must be the famously excellent American school system.

That’s over a much longer time period tbf. In the last 1000 years alone we’ve had the Swedes, the Danes, the Poles, the Holy Roman Empire, Russians (both in imperial and soviet variants), nazi Germany for 3 years, etc.
If we go back as far as the Younger Dryas nobody knows for sure what happened here because so little is known about the different cultures that lived here. Written history mostly starts with the crusade in the 13th century. Before that there’s only mentions of conflicts with Scandinavians. Go back further and we’re talking about comb ceramic culture and corded ware culture which apparently come with their own genetic markers due to the fact that the cultures themselves were brought by the movement of Yamnaya people for corded and fuck knows what people for comb - genetically it was a mixture of mostly eastern hunter-gatherer with some western hunter-gatherer and western steppe herder thrown in, but the actual people don’t have name. Narva culture and earlier was more western hunter-gatherer genetically. It’s a huge mess. But same could be said for most continental people, real genetic isolation only really happened on remote islands.
Genetic diversity actually makes people look better which is why brits are so ugly* on their fairly isolated (other than some vikings a while ago) island while us Estonians have some very beautiful people after having at least half a dozen empires run train on us over the last 2 millennia. I mean I’m not one of those beautiful people, but there are a lot of them! lmao
Also it makes for a healthier population, not just a better looking one. So the genetic isolation Trump seems to want, eh… not good.
* Okay I’m just taking the piss on y’all, that British teeth thing is an American stereotype, I’ve never seen it IRL lmao

2·14 hours agoYea but the rest of us will still benefit. The US is like 5% of the world’s population, give or take. Okay there’s other countries with shitty health care systems (developing ones where they just haven’t gotten there yet), but I’d reckon like 80% of the world’s population would have easy and cheap or free access to it through government funded healthcare, or at least a better private system than the US. That’s still a net good. Y’all just need to get your shit in order, but unfortunately at this point it’s going to be harder and harder to do it without violence.

That’s the same as Mullvad then, or more if you consider that everyone who can afford it should pay for more than their fair share because some can not.

Bad Bunny has also expressed publicly that he views his own sexuality as fluid. In a 2020 interview with the Los Angeles Times, he stated, “At the end of the day, I don’t know if in 20 years I will like a man. One never knows in life. But at the moment I am heterosexual and I like women.”
From his wiki page. It does sound like he’s very supportive of LGBT people and their struggles though.
Don’t know much of him beyond what’s on his Wikipedia page, only heard like 2 or 3 songs, but overall he seems like a very decent dude and conservatives can’t handle that lol

Also is it a legit ban or just a comment? I haven’t seen this version of the reddit UI before

2·1 day agoWell the cuts of meat that are often used for making an oven roast, can also be called roasts sometimes I guess. You can go to the store and buy a product called “oven roast” and… boil it instead of roasting it. I just don’t know why one would do that.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL putting solar panels on land currently used for biofuels would produce enough electricity for all cars and trucks to go electricEnglish
21·1 day agoOr keep the cow and put solar on rooftops, car parks, etc. The cow shits out natural fertilizer which helps the land recover quicker so it can be used to produce more productive (in terms of people fed) crops again while the cow goes and grazes somewhere else where the soil’s no longer very productive.
It’s not a lot of land, sure, but there’s literally zero downside to putting solar in places where shade is desirable anyway. Just mandating solar in car parks alone could provide a ridiculous amount of electricity in more car-dependent cities.

Put it this way: saving money by drinking coffee at home is what funds your Kagi subscription. That’s 2 coffees a month and you still have 28 left to allocate, or just save.
