  • I used to use fedora on my first school Thinkpad (since I recieved another when my brother graduated, becoming my second school laptop,) then after I got 2 considerably more powerful laptops for free I switched the thinkpads out of my setup, and to this day they still run windows 11 unfortunately (haven’t gotten around to it and they’re both nvidia MX business machines, so that’s not awfully ideal,) and then I converted the second Thinkpad to a FydeOS machine (basically chrome os with local accounts) to give to my mother as her own laptop, and then put chromeOS flex on a third Thinkpad I bought off a friend for $10 which remains as my occasional-browsing-but-also-throw-around-laptop that has pretty friggin good battery life.

I do plan to switch at least one of the MX laptops to Linux, for which I’m considering Pop!_OS due to driver support and GPU configuration, but I’ve still gotta back some stuff up first.

  • I find it so funny how I use Spotify daily*, and the account is linked** to my google account that I use a lot, and in the past I made sure to downvote any ads that don’t fit my interests at all, so basically giving as much aminition to give some good targeted ads to me.

Turns out, after all that, I get rubbish collection ads, face mask ads and wastewater management ads, even though I have truly never thought about any of those nor have shown interest in them, AND I’ve shown tons of interest in only technology.

    Asterisks

(*) - I use the iOS mobile app, so I can’t really block ads unfortunately, even though I’d love to :/

(**) - I made the google and Spotify accounts when I was in my early teens, so I didn’t really know or care about digital footprint or tracking, so if I was able to go back, I would’ve at the very least gotten multiple google accounts to sandbox my activities. But hey, better late than never I guess!

  • I hate it when they give ambiguous testing figures like “getting run over by a 15.6 ton truck”, it’s not accurate because it isn’t specific. Do they mean a wheel pushing directly onto the chip? Or is it just getting quickly run over? Are they doing burnouts on the chip? Is the chip stuck down on the presumably regular road, or is it just tossed there?

So many things could happen, the chip gets scratched and becomes unusable, the chip survives because it was stuck to the floor, the chip survives/dies because the truck went too slow/fast, etc.

I haven’t read the article yet tho, imma read it now to see if there’s any context to this.

Edit: the context is fuck all. They just threw the statement in seemingly as dramatisation. Maybe they were implying that the chip would survive flawlessly while implanted in a persons arm, if that person were to get violently killed by a 15.6 tonne truck going 300kph, who knows.

  • Actually yeah, John Barilaro was the NSW Deputy Premier at the time, who had joined the Coronation Property development company (which was allegedly connected to gangs if I’m not mistaken), and when Friendly Jordies, the YouTuber in question, exposed the NSW Nationals Party’s actions to basically sabotage a town they were voted into as a way to drive out younger voters (basically to guarantee them a seat in parliament indefinitely), Barilaro allegedly ordered the fire bombing of Jordies house, but they botched it and fire bombed the neighbours house, then went back to hit the correct house.

I did do a little bit of researching to refresh my mind on it (since I saw the whole saga around 2 or 3 years ago), and turns out Barilaro apparently wasn’t connected to the attacks, but then again, the timing is kinda suspicious how Friendly Jordies’ house was fire bombed in 2022, the same year Barilaro was employed with the developer, although I’ll just leave that as speculation.

Honestly though, this has gotta be one of the rare occasions of when politics here is genuinely really interesting and kinda deranged, and I haven’t really heard issues like this to this calibre here.

  • I gotta say, from an Australian perspective, American politics is so extra, like an ex heroin Addict becoming the health minister, and some coked up orange business man who thinks he’s the second coming of Christ is the president? And the USA became fascistic in like a year? That’s wild

Aussie politics is just a boring ass democracy with some of the spicy American inspired silliness for the aesthetics, as well as most people being on the same page but like 2 politicians arguing about some insignificant idea somehow appearing on national news, or that group of people who want Albanese dead for just existing, which is a bit odd I gotta say.

  • “AI” is not a use case for a computer. Plain and simple. A real use case would be for instance to edit videos or code or create spreadsheets, and what the everloving shit does adding ✨Agentic and Conversational AI✨fix with literally any use case?

Sure, researching can be a use case for AI stuff, as well as just talking with it, but there’s no reason to sell an entire fucking class of laptops labeled “AI PCs” when the only thing it has is windows 11 copilot (lobotomised ChatGPT) and an NPU advertised as a “future compatibility” feature…

  • All the problematic peers I’ve known either were born into a neglectful or hostile household, or were neurodivergent of some kind and didn’t fit in with the environment we were in, since those who were typical and were born into understanding families would just do what they were supposed to do.

Due to how schools where I live are supposed to be looking out for signs of neurodivergence or other differences, while also being underfunded without a justification, many students aren’t even seen and once they get to middle or high school, they become the violent and problematic ones.

Then again though, it’s also the parents’ responsibility to make sure their own child is heard and cared for to prevent such outbursts from happening in the first place, and those neglectful or hostile households are likely a result of the parents not understanding what being mentally healthy means.

  • The worst thing about ‘smart TVs’ is that they advertise so many ‘cool’ features but most of them have less performant processors and less ram than my 2019 budget galaxy a series phone, and that’s very telling, you can’t even use their dog shit built in web browsers since everything becomes outdated after like a week, and the performance is so bad that the expensive Hisense tv my dad bought back in 2020 can’t even load Google properly.

  • I believe that near me, there was something that happened where it was partly human meat. I’ve heard that a worker at the meat packing plant for maccas got fed up with working there, so he tied up all his coworkers and fed them into the meat grinder. I’m actually not too sure if it was the nuggets or the patties, but then again, that’s still fucked

Edit: I just searched it up a few times and now I’m not even sure if it’s real lol, maybe it’s a myth

  • It’s wild how much this contrasts with Australia’s Medicare, like here you can literally just walk into the ER with any issue, show them your Medicare card and get your entire treatment covered for free unless you need any private healthcare, which even then there are rebates and private healthcare competes with public so it’s also moderately affordable.

There were 2 instances where my dad needed to be in hospital for multiple days at a time, once for a broken wrist after slipping at the boat ramp after a fishing trip, and the other was a stingray attack on his leg at that same boat ramp. Both instances didn’t require a single cent exchanged, we just walked in and described the issue, and boom, after a few days he was treated to the extent he could go home and not really worry at all anymore.
