Divide and conquer is so terribly effective.

Yes, they are.
Often times there’s just no reason to package a web app into an app container.

Climate@slrpnk.net•Pope Francis Couldn’t Travel to the U.N. Climate Summit, but His Voice Did2·2 years agoI don’t think the problem with structures like the church is that it’s always an asshole that makes it to the top. It’s that there’s always a risk that one will make it.
I agree with your criticism about the Catholic Church (I wouldn’t call this the biggest problem though), but from what I’ve read, the current Pope is more of an asset than a liability on this topic.

Buy it for Life@slrpnk.net•Suggestions for Merino Wool Tshirts?English
14·2 years agoI don’t know if Merino wool is the best use case for BIFL.
My take on wool: Wear it as long as possible, patch it and recycle or upcycle it when the time comes, and buy something that’s 100% wool instead of having synthetics mixed in, so it can be composted after use.
Advertising should be banned.

Climate@slrpnk.net•Frans Timmermans urges European left to unite against right’s climate backlash | Dutch politician and former EU deputy criticises ‘astonishing’ policy U-turns by countries including UK7·2 years ago“I think the imminent danger is an attempt by the right to say – and Sunak is a case in point – ‘we cannot afford climate policy because it’s too costly, especially for people who don’t have a lot to spend’,” said Timmermans.
“It’s quite astonishing to see people who generally have not shown a lot of consideration for people with low incomes to all of a sudden become the champions of people with low incomes, fighting climate policy,” he added.
“They are doing it for clear economic interests. The threat to progressives, to the left, is that this contradiction between social justice and climate justice is exploited by the right and is divisive for the left.”
Divide and conquer, it works so well unfortunately. And the right shamelessly exploit it.

Environment@beehaw.org•What is the breakdown of the "70%" of carbon emissions by companies?
18·3 years agoYou’re missing that the climate crisis is not a problem that can be solved by consumers, that’s what BP wants to make you believe by introducing the carbon footprint. Those companies are actively working to hold on to the status quo because they have lots of money flowing their way until things change.
The message behind this is not to stop buying from those companies, it’s that they are knowingly destroying our future and that we have a right to defend ourselves and this future.

3·3 years agoYou’d see comments and posts from their users on other instances that don’t block Meta.
It’s unclear how many users you would actually exclude, I think a lot of users who are on the fediverse right now don’t want to have anything to do with Meta.
As the fediverse grows, there will be different bubbles with not much interaction between those, mainly because some instances won’t be moderated while others will try to create discrimination free environments.
They pledge to defederate from Meta, I’d go one step further and defederate from any instance that federates with Meta.

I think there should be an alliance of instances that defederate from any instance that federates with Meta.
