The problem with tech is that you aren’t usually doing the thing that made you want to go into tech. For me this was creating things and solving interesting problems. Most of my days are meetings, dealing with clueless people and having to deal with leadership and product team changes that ruin already completed work. Thankfully being at large tech companies has enabled me to hopefully retire in my early 40s. I can then continue with tech in a way that is meaningful to me while also spending a lot more time outside. The PNW is beautiful and I intend to see much more of it .

Technology@lemmy.world•Oracle made a $300 billion bet on OpenAI. It's paying the price.English
2·5 months agoSame for me. I was directly responsible for automation of AI infrastructure builds. It was miserable and I felt terrible. I transferred out of that org but now I’m writing software using the tools created by our AI infra. I made a lot this year due to equity increase and maybe next year but I want to be out.
Thanks! Those do look nice.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Mecha Comet is a modular Linux handheld coming soon to Kickstarter for $159 - Liliputing
2·1 year agoWas just using that as an example. It would be great to see a Linux device with this capability. I have played around with a few Linux phones and convergence was a feature that received attention so I think there’s hope.

4·1 year agoAgree. Sometimes I want a tablet, sometimes a laptop but I don’t need or want 2 separate devices of that size. I recall quite a few Android projects (Mirabook, Project Linda) that would use a phone with a laptop dock but I’d prefer a phone as a standalone device and a secondary, larger & more powerful, device that can have multiple forms.

11·1 year agoI commented on someone who seemed to think that millennials wasn’t the correct generation because millennials must have grown up watching Seinfeld. Many did, but many didn’t. I know many people around my age that didn’t watch it so it’s fairly safe to assume that people who were 2-4 years old when the show ended might not have seen it, even re-runs. Remembering it and watching it enough to have an opinion on it are two different things.

94·1 year agoThe years for Millennials go up to 94-96, Seinfeld finished in 98. I doubt many that young would have seen it. I was born in 86 and I barely watched Seinfeld re-runs.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why does the "Media Bias Fact Checker" - Bot gets downvoted so much lately?
4·2 years agoThat makes sense, I just hadn’t seen a single post. In a comment above it was stated that posts criticizing the bot are removed, which is possibly why I haven’t seen any.

I had the same “well technically” thought at first but destroying that much infrastructure will result in some immediate deaths and mass casualties later. So maybe not technically genocide but in reality it’s close.
