Keith Ballard is excellent for puzzle games - and, well, most other game types that show up there. He’s my personal favorite.

8·1 year agoStill have my Pocket CHIP. I look at it sometimes and sigh, thinking about what could have been.
There are a couple resources around to bring it up to something approaching working on the internet, but not much, and not complete, last I checked.
Thing was great for playing terminal roguelikes, though.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•People who have those extra fold out laptop monitors, are they any good?English
5·2 years agoI have a Mobile Pixels one, it’s certainly been a big help. Power and picture from the same USB-C cable. It was kind of hard to install (have to adhesive on some magnets correctly, glue wasn’t too great, I recently replaced them with some other adhesives I bought online, worked good so far).
For the most part it doesn’t give me any issues, does what I want of it, but if I have one complaint it’s that when I’m playing a game that uses my laptop’s graphics card, I will usually have to unplug and replug the screen back in because it begins fizzling out like it’s losing power or signal. Functions fine after though. It’s slightly annoying but not that big a deal.
Overall I don’t regret my purchase, I just wish it was a bit more polished with an easier and more reliable mounting process and not fizzling out when I play intense games.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What part of a game you enjoy replaying do you dislike replaying?English
91·2 years agoThe main thing that keeps me from reinstalling and trying to play Skyrim again is the thought of having to do Bleak Falls Barrow for the billionth time. Yeah, I could mod around it, but I just don’t care enough to figure out how for a game I pretty much always play through the first few hours of and then drop for another three years anyways.
No, no, I know these guys. It’s just the Goodfeathers. Watch, one of the ones on the left is gonna start beating up the one on the right in a little cartoonish dust cloud kind of thing. Hilarious.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the coolest thing you've found in a thrift store?English
8·3 years agoA friend of mine went to the thrift store and sent me a picture of a really weird wooden cat thing with huge doll eyes that stared into your soul. I needed to own it, so I asked them to buy it and I’d pay them back, since it was only a couple dollars. I have no idea what it’s supposed to be, cat is just my closest guess, but I can tell you that, whatever it is, it is now my little buddy. Supremely weird creature, I love it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Can you recommend contemporary music artists without lyrics?English
4·3 years agoI saw you said you like some electronic music, so I’ll throw in Prefuse 73 (or really, any of Scott Heren’s pseudonyms) and Infected Mushroom. Prefuse 73 has some voice samples but is largely electronic/trip-hop, while Infected Mushroom has a decent split between songs with lyrics and songs without, so I recommend just grabbing an album and picking out what works for you.

3·3 years agoI used to be one of those people who thought that it was unfair that they were handing out the achievements for “less effort,” 'til somebody pointed out to me that it isn’t for less effort. Somebody who needs accommodations would be playing a harder game than somebody who doesn’t at default settings. Their difficulty curve is steeper. Accomodations are a way of bringing the difficulty curve more in line with what a non-disabled player would experience.
And besides - most people aren’t going to want to completely ruin the game for themselves by sucking out any semblance of difficulty. Most people are still gonna play the game in a way where they get challenged. And even if they do, who cares? That doesn’t devalue the work that you did, you know? You still put in that effort yourself, so you can still feel secure in it.
Not coming after you in particular, just talking on a couple of the general points you brought up.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is there a business in your town, which you are 100% sure is a front?
17·3 years agoI can’t prove it, but there’s a florist in my town, definitely still in business, that I have not seen a non-company-branded car in front of in actual years. Morning, noon, and night, never any customers. Never any movement from inside. The only time I ever saw the lights on was in the dead of night. The building is half-claimed by ivy.
If it weren’t for the upkept greenhouse and the sign out front occasionally changing, you’d never know it wasn’t totally abandoned, but it’s still operating. Mob activity is the only way to explain it.

This is probably my pick too, and it frustrates me. Because like, look. I love Remedy games. I love Alan Wake 1 and 2 to death. I just bought a 200 dollar book about Alan Wake. I really vibe with Control’s aesthetic and setting. Ahti is great. I have beat Control before, but ever since then, whenever I think “oh, I should go back and replay Control” I get about five hours back into the game before I just sit there and think man, I am not having any fun. Just about all of these characters feel like cardboard cutouts with neutral faces drawn on them, the plot is kinda dull, when it bothers to show up, and if the game can’t really get excited about itself I’m not sure how I’m supposed to. I’ll always love launching a forklift at some Hiss at 200mph but it doesn’t take me far enough.
That being said, yes, I will still be playing Control 2 day one. Even if it’s garbage, Remedy will always deserve the chance for me.
