I thought I was the only person that almost exclusively listened to the radio! I live in an area with a good variety of stations so that helps, I realize some people have very little options when they turn on the radio. I occasionally put on Pandora when I want to listen to a specific obscure genre or YouTube when I’m looking up a specific artist.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Could you help me with a bit of life advice? Ending uni, scared of going forward.
0·3 years agoIt’s perfectly natural to be scared of change but it is fruitless because change is going to happen whether you want it to or not. Even if you stay here, things are going to change. Remember that and use it to help you get past your fear of change.
You’re also focusing on the negatives, what about the positives? What if this internship turns out to be the best thing you’ve ever done? What if it does lead you to wanting to stay there which then leads you to an amazing life that you love and makes you happy? Even if you stay here, you and your partner might not stay together and how would you feel if you gave up this opportunity and you guys break up 6 months down the road and you’re full of regret for not taking the internship?
If I were you I would 100% take the internship abroad, that’s an opportunity that the majority of people don’t get. Take it!

Lemmy.World Announcements@lemmy.world•Reddit CEO: We're Sticking With API Changes, Despite Subreddits Going Dark
10·3 years agoGive us “normies” a little credit. I’m not technical minded AT ALL and I’m still willing to stick around and figure out how this shit works. Do I understand it? Hardly. Does the app I’m using (Jerboa) work? Barely. (Although today’s new release has improved it greatly, thanks guys!). But I’m still floundering around here and it’s a bit frustrating. I’m still going to give it a go though. I’m confident that improvements will come that make it easier here for everyone like me that uses the internet a lot but doesn’t really understand the internet that much.
But maybe I’m just willing to stick it out because I was only looking for an excuse to leave Reddit and the means to do so. I admit I don’t really care about the recent debacle, I just miss the old Reddit of 10-15 years ago and I don’t like what it’s become (a place full of memes, TikTok videos, dumb jokes, and hardly any real conversation anymore). It took this most recent fiasco for people to start talking about alternatives and that’s when I finally learned about the fediverse and made the move. It has been a lot easier to leave when I knew where I could go.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is Lemmy your first time on the Fediverse?English
5·3 years agoThis is my first experience with fediverse, I had never even heard of it before. So far it’s going okay, there are some things I wish were different or easier, but maybe that’s just because it’s new and feels clunky because I haven’t figured it all out yet.
In general though I am enjoying Lemmy so far, it feels like being on internet message boards back in the old days (20-25 years ago)!

5·3 years agoI agree that this will be a fun evolution to watch!
Your picture isn’t showing up for me :( I also haven’t been able to use the app yet, I downloaded it but no matter what button I press on the screen it just keeps telling me I need to “login first” and I can’t log in anywhere…

5·3 years agoThe one thing that I don’t like is that you can’t change your home instance. I signed up for Lemmy without knowing anything about it, and I mean I knew absolutely ZERO about how it works. Therefore, I just clicked on a random instance because I didn’t even know what an instance was, and I signed up. So what if I joined the wrong one for me? What if it turns out to be shit? I Guess I could just sign up for a different one with a different login, but wish there was an option to jump to a new one with your same login if you wanted to.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•for the Reddit refugees, do you also feel a bit heartbroken?
2·3 years agoI think you’re right that trying to figure out how it all works will be a barrier for some and they won’t bother. That could be a good thing or a bad thing, we’ll just have to wait and see what kind of user base this grows into!

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•for the Reddit refugees, do you also feel a bit heartbroken?
5·3 years agoIn a way I’m a little sad but I’m also hopeful. I started on Reddit 13 years ago and it was a very different place than it is now. I liked it better then, and I think I’m sad and will miss it for what it was, not what it is. I’m hopeful for a fresh start here on Lemmy where it feels like I’m getting back to the actual conversation with other users, which is what I miss about the current Reddit. There’s very little conversation there anymore, so much of it is just pictures and jokes and bots.

5·3 years agoThis is my first visit so I’m still trying to figure things out. I’m on the mobile website right now because I haven’t been able to figure out how to log in on the Jerboa app. Can anyone tell me what “instance” means on Jerboa when you’re logging in? I tried a couple different ones from the dropdown menu but they all said " incorrect login."

Where are my fellow Giants fans? We need a place too! I’m a total newbie to all this I have no idea how to create one myself :(
