  • Well, ‘casual’ in that I never did get into the nitty-gritty too much. I had to learn to sling a few terminal commands for this-and-that, but otherwise I almost never touch it. It browses the web, edits documents, prints pdfs, plays audio files, and does a little video editing in Blender just fine.

If there were Linux competitions, I’d definitely be out in the early rounds.

  • Long term casual? I’ve been using it in some form since the early 00s when I installed Ubuntu 6 on an aging laptop. Currently I’ve got an HP Stream 13 that only functions thanks to Lubuntu, and Mint is on my work PC. Unfortunately thanks to a music hobby and a bunch of shitty VST vendors who refuse to support Linux I run Windows at home.

    I rarely open a terminal.

  • Some time a long time ago, I decided to sink my teeth into a nice, long, schlocky sci-fi series. I picked up Kevin J. Anderson’s Saga of the Seven Sons. I made it maybe twenty pages in before I decided it really was not for me.

Some time not as long ago, I noticed I had some Kevin J. Anderson books I’d never read. I made it maybe ten pages in before I remembered it really was not for me.

  • Vektor released three progressively more amazing albums of prog thrash before their label dropped them after domestic abuse allegations against the frontman.

Infiltration was an amazing Street Fighter pro who was sometimes completely unstoppable and really fun to watch. At least until he also faced domestic abuse allegations. He got banned from some competitions, his sponsor dropped him, and he nearly completely disappeared. The situation also anecdotally sounds like it’s not just a case of “oh he beat his wife” and possibly was in a mutually abusive relationship. But a judge convicted him based on “a wrist injury and bruises” and that was basically the end of his career.

  • I have to have Facebook messenger installed because it’s the only way I have to contact several out-of-date friends and family. Notifications enabled for the same reason. It will send a notification when you get a message. Ok.

If you happen to leave that notification there to say, maybe check that message later, it will send a second notification to remind you of the first notification.

Oh, it also makes loud annoying noises when you or someone else is typing in a chatroom.

Fuck Facebook messenger. With a rusty hammer. Sideways. In a vat of acid.
