1. Not really, even america maintains its military bases worldwide to contain capitalism, its just ideological battle. Secondly what people did after collapse of soviet union has nothing to do with what were their opinion on socialism during its existence. CIA and NATO carried out operation gladio to systematically sabotage communist parties in west, that included funding far right terror groups and assassinating communist leaders. So much for free liberal democracy huh.
