That’s technically true and also the reason why a 60FPS locked game can indeed look smoother on a 120Hz display compared to 60Hz. Because 60FPS don’t always hold a steady 16.67ms between each frame so it could happen that on a 60Hz display you’ll see a frame twice and skip another one instead.

Nowadays you ideally have a monitor which supports variable refresh rate so this becomes a non issue because every single frame now gets his own refresh.

Wefwef is trying to clone Apollo for Reddit.

Well the first sentence of memmys github description says that it’s “an Apollo-inspired iOS and Android client” so I’d say they’re doing the same^^

Shame, I uninstalled the testflight version after their comment that they won’t display inline pics like the other apps and now the beta is full^^
How did they do it with the latest update? Is it a link which opens an image in a new window or is it sort of a spoiler tag view?

Is that different from the actual app store version? Because there I still don’t see it.
btw I had to use wefwef to find your comment because memmy can only bring me to the thread but not to the specific comment^^

memmy devs already confirmed on github that they won’t add inline pics as we see them on wefwef, mlem or browser. Instead they’ll try to add a link that says “show image” at the place where the image is supposed to be. Better than the situation now but still bad imho.
That’s btw how wefwef handles pics in comments, mlem also shows the full pic here.

I’m using wefwef and I switched back and forth between wefwef, memmy and mlem.
Here are some things I considered:

• Inline images are shown in posts(instead of linked to at the end): mlem, wefwef
• Opening images and zooming them: memmy, wefwef
• saving images: memmy (Edit: wefwef too since on of the latest updates)
• Adjustable text size: memmy, wefwef
• compact view is actually compact: wefwef, mlem (Edit: memmy too since the latest update)
• jumping to comments from your inbox: wefwef , Memmy(kind of, shows comment chain of that specific post, but not highlights the comment and has no way of switching to all comments from there)
• edit comments: wefwef, memmy

As you can see, wefwef is present in all of these ^^ jumping to comment is a pretty big one for me, aswell as the inline images

But it does.
Example: You’re on lemmy.world. Let’s say lemmy.world defederates lemmy.ml today.

Now you won’t be able to see any new posts made by users of lemmy.ml, be it on lemmy.ml itself or on any other instance. You will still see everything that was posted up until the defederation though because defederation just means that your instance won’t request new copies of the content of lemmy.ml .
And they also can’t post stuff on comunities of lemmy.world(I believe they technically could do that, just that nobody could see it, but it may be that by now it’s entirely blocked to even make a post there).

Now as long as lemmy.ml doesn’t defederate lemmy.world too, their users will still be able to see your comments and may also reply to your comments on other instances, but you won’t see that.

So defederation mainly serves two purposes for the users of the instance that defederates another instance:

1. Their users won’t see any content from comunities of those instances in their “all” feed and also won’t see any posts from users of that instance in the comment sections of any comunity of any instance.
2. Users of those instance won’t be able to post on their instance.

Everything you post in a beehaw community won’t be seen by anyone else. Everything you post in a community of any other instance will be seen by everyone who isn’t on an instance that defederated yours

In general lemmyverse.net is the best way of finding communities right now

https://lemmyverse.net/communities This is a good start in search for communities. You can enter your home instance(in your case lemmy.ca) by clicking on the house symbol at the top right and then search for communities like “security”.

When you click on one, it’ll automatically lead you to the adress based on your home instance and you can immediately subscribe to them form there.

Well I can say that the site now looks the same on browser standard as it looks on english or german so that worked. But that look is now this: https://imgur.com/9ctuZdv

Clearing the browser cache took it back to normal, so everything seems to be fine now. Thank you for what ever it is you did ^^

I’ve tried to reproduce the steps aswell and it’s kinda tricky because some of the combinations that didn’t work are now just working and I don’t know why.

A way to reproduce it on my end that seems to be pretty reliable so far:

Lemmy language set to browser default and browser set to english, everything works. (I can also set browser default, english, german, doesn’t matter).
Set browser language to german while Lemmy is set to english and restart browser (I’m using chrome btw) Still everything is working.

Now switching back to browser default has it also working as long as I stay on the site. I can refresh the feed by clicking on the lemmy logo, view posts, go back via the lemmy logo etc.
But once I refresh the entire site through chrome, it stops working and I have to change the browser language to english again to set it back up. (It even showed my username at the top right as “Tankon” instead of “Taxxor” for one refresh, the next refresh had the login and sign up buttons, then it was “Taxxor” again on the next^^)

The shorter way would be to have Lemmy set to browser default while having the browser set to english end then switch the browser to german.
But I thought the scenario above where I can still use the site after setting it to browser default as long as I don’t do a full refresh might be of interest to see what the issue might be.

Hey, I got the issue that was posted here for rc1 https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/1657

using apps like Mlem or Memmy works fine, but the browser just shows everything empty and the UI is not responding to anything. Switching the browser language to English like suggested in the github issue solves this, but using my standard browser language(german in my case) doesn’t work.

Edit: Well a workaround was to switch my broser language to english, so that everything was working, then change the language in the lemm.ee settings from “browser default” to german(note that it was "browser default the entire time and this site was always english with 0.17.4 despite my browser being german).
Now it’s working with my browser set to german, and it even keeps the language german when I change it back to “browser default”. But when I set it to english, it’s no longer working. Then I have to change my browser language to english again.
