No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do you find that you're on the fed more than you were on r/ just because you're really really excited to watch your favorite communities become more active?
10·3 years agoyep, i will happily admit that i’m in the new relationship/honeymoon phase on Lemmy right now. today i saw my first full rainbow thread of discussion and i find that there’s a genuine, somewhat pure sense of enjoyment. maybe this is how the high feels before the addiction kicks in.
i have mixed feelings regarding its growth. i want the community to grow and thrive, but at the same time i don’t want it to turn into reddit: the next generation.

2·3 years agoHi! I’m just jumping in here to say that this is the first time I’ve seen a full rainbow thread of discussion on Lemmy and this is amazing. Thank you for this quality discussion!

4·3 years agoWell yes, that is your opinion. What I’m saying is that you’re not exactly making a compelling argument. The people who agree with your viewpoint most likely already did before reading your comments, and those who didn’t agree will continue to disagree.
What you could do to be more helpful, is to give real examples of “great freedom-oriented software projects” that failed, and share your thoughts about what it was about those projects that led to their downfall.
I am on board with creating a better system for the future internet, but we disagree on the methods of doing so. I believe that more transparency is better for the future, and I’m open to hearing others’ opinions on this subject. But when you call everyone crazy for their views, then assume that everyone disagreeing with you is burying their head in the sand, and you insinuate that I don’t have a right to be here if I don’t share your views, well it’s certainly not helping your credibility in any way.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Announcing OpenLemmyStats.org: Publicly Queryable Vote History + Other Hidden Data for Any Lemmy User!English
54·3 years agoThat sounds kinda fun! I would volunteer my data for science and curiosity. It reminds me of buzzfeed quizzes, I input some data and then it tells me who or what I am. It’s mildly entertaining. Perhaps it could even go as far as influencing peoples’ opinions of themselves and their worldviews.
I don’t really have a problem with this. If I did have a problem with it, it’s quite easy for me to stop using Lemmy, along with any federated platform. But I’m not going to stop buying groceries just because the data collected on my shopping habits can infer what brand of cheese I prefer and how often I eat cheese.

114·3 years agoWell first you came in here calling everyone insane. Then you said “we will be better off just using Facebook/Reddit/Twitter”. And now you think we should help you come up with solutions to your problem, because you think this platform will fail.

7·3 years agoI get what you’re saying and I don’t disagree. But there’s people who are openly disrespecting Reddit (which I am fine with) and then there’s people openly disrespecting ANYBODY (which I am not fine with). To me, it felt like people were just lurking and waiting for an opportunity to hate on something/someone. As others have pointed out, maybe it was always like this. But it definitely feels worse to me.

4·3 years agoAh, it was the comments on the new Atelier Ryza anime that I saw. If you want to try a social experiment, just go to any post about the anime and say something either for or against “thighs”.
Maybe it was always this bad and I just walked in at the wrong time. The content is not the issue, it’s the people in the comments, and I saw no attempts to moderate any of it. Either way, I didn’t like what I saw, so I left.

642·3 years agoThe overall quality of content on Reddit has changed significantly since July 1st. It has become a safe space for all of the worst people on the internet to gather and thrive in awfulness together. Anime subs are flooded with pervs openly sexualizing children and calling for porn. Music subs are filled with misogynists looking for reasons to say disgusting things and hate on young women artists. Any attempt at having a reasonable discussion is downvoted into oblivion. Moderators are either absent or they post generic botty-sounding messages like, “Please be civil” while not actually moderating anything. It’s incredibly frustrating and it’s driving away all of the regular people who just want to enjoy their content and have on-topic discussions.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Lemmy's total users surged from 156k to 240k in a single day today! What caused the jump?English
2·3 years agoI was one of the ~80k new accounts made on that day. I haven’t fully left reddit yet, due to morbid curiosity. I’ve left several subreddits because of the rampant unchecked hostility in the comments. Even today I left the DreamlightValley sub (a disney game!!) because there’s some really strange mod behaviour going on there.
Reddit is turning into a massive internet trash fire and I just can’t look away 🫣
It was pretty funny that I learned about the price increase from a Youtube ad, for a subscription that I have never wanted, while watching on my 2nd gen iPad Mini, which cannot use the Youtube app.
