And they take up almost no space, so that makes it even more annoying. I make sure to keep seeding as much as possible.

5·2 days agoI think I have that among my torrents. 33 seeders.
Maybe you’re still seeding a torrent that’s no longer as popular.

2·3 days agoDisc rot is also a thing.
I find it’s best to accept entropy, that you’re going to die, that everything ends, that you will lose data, that there will be a last time you watch a movie or show, and keep running those ssd/hdds even when they’re in the yellow/red warning zone.
Years back I was sorting through ten years of emails. I got so sick of it, I simply deleted everything. You know what? No drawbacks even ten years later. Such a huge relief.
Reminds me of the artist Michael Landy who chucked everything he owned - pictures, clothes, artwork, his passport - into a shredder. Performance art, reaction against consumerism. He was understandably miserable doing it, but what a relief that must have been. To be free of all the crap. It is true that the things you own often end up owning you.
My grandparents hoarded all their lives, and after they died much of what they owned ended up in a skip, because there wasn’t enough time or interest to sell it. The supposedly priceless porcelain? Chucked. All the records? Sold. Furniture? Goodwill. The huge supply of sunlight soap? Really useful actually.

8·3 days agoCurate, is my advice.
I occasionally go through and cull the worst shows and movies. No point keeping mainstream crap that’s readily available on all the streaming sites.

Previous entries still had an edge, but I worry that GTA online has ruined them. I assume most of the people who created the previous games are all gone too.

22·4 days agoKeep seeding the rare shit please.
I know people go on about ratios and yadayada, but the popular stuff will always have seeders, seeding popular stuff is just helping people download quicker.
Seeding the rare shit means that torrent continues to exist.
So much stuff has been lost forever and a large part of that is torrents no longer having seeders.

Perfectly acceptable at the time. Only an issue if you were selling them, but even then not a huge issue.

5·7 days agoIRC the Netherlands and Belgium it’s also not a crime, you won’t be pursued by the authorities.
However, that doesn’t stop rights-holders from suing you for damages.
In any case, if you’re using a VPN and privacy conscious you should be fine.
This being said, I really should switch to linux.

So you’re saying I should steal content by downloading it illegally from rutracker.org?Thanks for the tip. I’ll be sure to download loads of content illegally, then seed it in perpetuity, so that others can also steal it and infringe copyright on a mass scale.
Just kidding, I will be sure to only download public domain content and open source software.
In all seriousness, is rutracker something I should visit with my browser in a sandbox, or is ublock and privacy badger enough?

2·8 days agoAgreed. I’m actually quite glad.
You can’t read reddit without logging in, but IME you can’t actually register an account without it getting instantly silent-banned either, unless you’re using a non-anonymous mail or connection.
The only problem is that I still have the muscle memory of quickly typing reddit when opening a browser, but given that’s now entirely pointless, that should fade sooner rather than later.
Shame about the smaller communities, like /r/panelshow which despite all its flaws was still useful for pirating those shows. Guess I’ll have to go find it elsewhere.

1·8 days agoAI is asking the question too, most likely.

It’s/its is also common mistake with non-native speakers.
The really obvious one is using of instead of instead of have. Would of. Should of. Could of. From would’ve, should’ve, could’ve. Non-native speakers will rarely if ever make that mistake.
