Oh this one is really something. Even as a clueless teen I still had WTF moments, and I don’t even want to read it now, I just know I will be cringing the whole time.

Iirc they are thinking about putting some kind of Killswitch collar to their “bodyguards” in “exchange” of a place in the bunker should an event arrive for this reason.

Because it isn’t, everyone have sequential thoughts with almost identical “speed”, the difference is that some ppl can focus on their interlocutor and stop their train thought (or fake interest in their conversation), while others can’t

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you mateys and folks deal with the sheer amount of music available out there?
5·7 months agoI use the streaming service qobuz, which have curated playlists and “albums of the week”. It allows me to discover new styles or artists that I never thought much about. Sometimes it’s a miss, but that’s depending on taste. Also, the sound quality is really good if you have the hardware required.

1·7 months agoWarning, all content below is In french :
- if you like audio adventures, fantasy (and are quite fluent in french) I urge you to try “reflets d’acide”. Imagine that your typical D&D session is narrated, with meta jokes and lots of wordplay !
- Le comptoir Sécu, Which is a periodic review of cyber security news.
- a list of content creators that you can find in podcasts ( or youtube), pretty politicals : clément victorovitch (rethoric analyst, with a heavy focus on french politics, pretty mainstream but hard leaning left. Mathieu burgalassi ( french journalist focusing on fighting fascism and alt-right, everything he does is heavily sourced and he also did some debates)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Non-Americans, what's it like when you're sick and need to go to the doctor?
17·7 months agoFrench here. when sick, I use an app to book a appointment to a medical center I have that’s like 5 minutes away by foot ( not typical for all french residents but I am quite lucky with where I live). I usually have an appointment in the next 2 to 4 hours tops. Depending on what it is, I walk away with a prescription and certificate for work stating how many sicks days I have. This costs me nothing, appart from the occasional optional medication that is not reimbursed.

Still have both smartphone and pc (mostly for gaming). I think in the future we will have only a smartphone that will dock to screens (or maybe glasses) and will be connected to cloud computing for intensive purposes.

Something to keep in mind while talking about birth rate in France, is that we have a retirement system that is centered around growth. We do not have individual retirement plans, we pay each month for the currently retired people, and the workers will pay for ours when we retire. This creates a problem when the population of retired ppl is in augmentation and the active population ( working and paying taxes) is declining.
For a long time there was way more active pop than retired so we have a safety net, but it will slowly erode. And currently the political “solution” being pushed is not growing the active population (immigration for instance), but shifting the system towards a capitalisation (ie. Simililar to 401k)
