Houseplants@mander.xyz•Update on my current Pinguicula collection (mostly pictures)English
2·9 months agoLooking good! Mine are recovering from their bath the other week lol… Some didn’t make it but surprisingly a few seem to be putting out new leaves!
So pretty! 😍
Well you’re in luck! Hoyas aren’t highly toxic to cats, and depending how much your cats chomp down on your houseplants it’s relatively safe to have one around. The ASPCA lists hoyas as non-toxic to dogs, cats, and horses.
Like everything, quantity matters. If your cat eats houseplants on the regular then it will most likely get some GI upset. I definitely wouldn’t put it in the same league as lilies, which are highly toxic to cats.

it’s a mostly west facing window and gets super bright afternoon/evening light. It’s been in that window all spring and summer and seems to like it fine :)
Update: So I may have gone postal… After doing some searching online a couple people mentioned insecticidal soap. Well, I happened to have some on-hand and figured screw it. Whatever lives, lives.

I’ll leave them in there for a day and see if any plants survived (god I hope so…). Surfaces have all be sprayed with alcohol and all the substrate + nursery pots have been tossed, with the rest soaking in dishsoap.
Here’s hoping I didnt just murder all my new babies. I didn’t see a single mealy on any of them so no idea which plant(s) was the culprit.

2·10 months agoOh yikes, that’s stupid expensive. Definitely not worth the cost. I think it’ll get harder for me to not buy if they release a new Animal Crossing or Zelda, but honestly even then it’s not worth buying a whole console for 2 games. Probably just have to play them by other means :P

7·10 months agoDoom: The Dark Ages, for example, is CDN$89.99 on Steam currently. Cost of living has gone insanely haywire in Canada honestly, we’re getting price gouged left, right, and centre, and every company seems to be pushing their prices up because people just keep paying up. It’s really frustrating.

2·10 months agoYeah I’ve already bought 10 games and a DLC… And spent less than $100 doing so! :P

231·10 months agoNintendo is right out to lunch on these price hikes. The Switch and its games were already stupid expensive, and then they jacked them up even more for Switch 2. I usually buy Nintendo consoles and games but I’ve been priced out of the new console. I’m not going to spend $110 + tax on one game when I could get like 5 decent games on my PC for that price, heck more even with sales.
I’m honestly surprised at the amount of people willing to pay these prices. I’m so sick of corporate greed.

Houseplants@mander.xyz•Are the black marks on my hoya vine fugus?English
2·10 months agoIt just looks like normal growth to me. I don’t have a khroniana black so I can’t be certain for sure though. Honestly if it were me, I’d just let it do it’s thing and intervene if the plant’s health starts to decline. You could spray it with a fungicidal spray if you’re really worried.
The mold on the pon is harmless to plants, I get it on some of mine since it’s so humid. I had to really increase the drainage on my soil (equal parts perlite, potting soil, and orchid bark), and the bonsai mix I use for my semi hydro develops the mold if I fill the reservoire up too high.
I’m so here for it! r/hoyas is probably the reddit community I miss the most lol.
Beautiful compacta! Mine’s working on a peduncle so hopefully I’ll have some flowers to post soon :)

7·10 months agoAlso sometimes it’s unavoidable without workarounds. It shouldn’t be crazy to expect to buy a product that works and works well without it spying on you. Why should companies get the right to continue to collect data and generate more profit off of an item the consumer owns. Why should consumers have to give up their right to privacy so that a company can make obscene profits off of their information?

3·1 year agoYeah the console is one thing but the Switch 1 game price was my absolute cap. I can’t justify shelling out that much money per game. I will definitely be making a steam deck my next console instead.

I need to start sharing my non-hoyas more often lol
