Programming@programming.dev•Open Source 'Eclipse Theia IDE' Exits Beta to Challenge Visual Studio Code -- Visual Studio Magazine
4·2 years agoA shocking amount of microcontroller manufacturers have eclipse based IDEs for their chips. Thought that seems to be going out of style, luckily.

Programming@programming.dev•How do you test visual programing languages?
4·2 years agoI was actually offered a Bachelor thesis topic by a company to write a test bench for a product in LabView.
From what they told me and my other engineering experience I’d suggest going with an approach similar to what’s used with HDLs. For unit tests create test benches in the language itself which call the functions you want to test with a predefined input (e.g. from a file) and then analyse and save the output.
You can extend this to obtaining other information as well, but tbh I’ll bet it’s still gonna be a pain.
Hope that helps at least a little.
Us Germans are extra thorough. We wish both, breaking neck and leg.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the last video game that you were completely hooked on?
6·2 years agoRunescape/Old school runescape
Been playing since 2009. Sure I’ve taken breaks, sometimes multiple years, but I always return.
The old saying is true, “You never quit runescape, you just take breaks”

Climate@slrpnk.net•A cargo ship’s ‘WindWing’ sails saved it up to 12 tons of fuel per day181·2 years agoThanks for putting it into relation to daily use. 200,000 is not realistic though. Just had a google and found this source citing up to 400 metric Tons/day
https://maritimepage.com/fuel-consumption-how-much-fuel-cargo-ship-use/
12 is 0.6% of 200,000 btw

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the oldest piece of tech you still have running?
81·2 years agoMy Harman Kardon pc speakers. They are as old as I am. Here’s a pic of the same model I found online.

8·2 years agoThere are other alternatives too, like invidious. The yewtu.be instance works decently well for me but limits to 720p I think. There is a list of all running instances somewhere on the github iirc. There’s other instances that allow full HD, just have a search and you should be able to find one.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.ml•Proton 8.0-4 Released with Support for More Windows Games on Linux
5·3 years agoUp until recently I was using a gtx 1060 just fine. Not sure about the high end ray tracing stuff though.
I’d say give it a try, I had a great experience. Never had any proton issues with an nvidia card my self. Just keep in mind nvidia drivers on Linux are notorious for being bad. If you choose an LTS distro or one that packages the drivers you’ll be fine though. Pop!_OS LTS with the nvidia drivers is what I ran.
Yeah I have the enhanced and 4/6 armour seeds. I know I can do without, I have done a few raids already. I just don’t feel like doing more raids with a d-crossbow if I’m this close to finishing crystal. Especially since using the bowfa is a ton of fun (been using it with the crystal top and slayer helm on some tasks). It would also make stuff like Bandos/Cerb etc better.
I’ve been afking shooting stars at work. Still a while off 92 mining sadly. I’d love amethyst for the BP. I have a ton of Addy darts but they suck since the BP nerfs.
Hope your bone heals well.
I got spooned a dpick at cal’varion this week and have also been afk levelling woodcutting. Almost at 85 to boost for the kourend diary.
Kinda burnt out on osrs though. I want to learn CoX and ToB but I’m trying to get full crystal first. Missing 2 more seeds but CG is just so boring.

Games@sh.itjust.works•Leaked email reveals Phil Spencer's damning verdict on AAA games: 'Most publishers are riding the success of franchises created 10+ years ago'English
1·3 years agoSame. At least with Deus Ex I have some hope left. Iirc the studio (Eidos?) was sold by Square Enix and the new owner may have them work on a new Deus Ex.
If you like those kind of games it may also interest you that Dishonored 3 being planned was part of the leaks last week.

4·3 years agoDotO is basically a huge DLC for Dishonored 2 and not a main game. It’s still great though and has some fantastic lore. It also released in 2017, so a bit early for a spot on this list.

4·3 years agoTime to request full gdpr info. Also they don’t delete your posts if you request account deletion and tell you to do it yourself.
After the request tell them through an E-Mail to delete every single comment with remotely identifiying info for you since you dont have access.

Android@lemmy.world•Why do you personally prefer using an Android phone?English
2·3 years agoSorry for the late reply, still getting used to lemmy and missed the notification.
I’m probably in the minority but I didn’t actually do it to completely de-google. I still have some Google services installed, they are sandboxed and limited to what I actively want though.
My main reason was removing the insane bloat that comes with modern phones. Think Facebook/Google and vendor specific apps being preinstalled without the ability to remove, forced google search bar on the home screen etc… Now I have a pretty clean, fairly safe, OS which behaves almost exactly like a normal phone.
The learning curve is actually pretty manageable. Took me an afternoon to be good enough to create lab reports for Uni. Creating your first template takes a bit but isn’t super hard. Afterwards you can reuse that and only need to tweak.
This is the Tutorial I used. For an editor I’d suggest VSCode with LaTeX Workshop. (There’s also LTeX which is a great grammar and spelling checker)

Android@lemmy.world•Why do you personally prefer using an Android phone?English
4·3 years agoOn a pixel phone you can even install a google free OS like graphene (that’s what I did)

The problem is really down to finding places where you can actually build something like a hydroelectric power plant.
You need a large area you can safely flood. (No villages in the area or only villages you can buy out the owners of) or a high up lake.
The area to flood needs to have the geology required to construct a dam safely.
And finally, the area needs to be pretty high up and have an area below you can direct the outgoing water to.
