Archaeology@mander.xyz•News - Archaeologists Solve Mystery of Wooden Structure Submerged in English RiverEnglish
3·1 year agothe structure was actually built in the nineteenth century as part of a project to replace Bishop Skirlaw’s bridge, a task spearheaded by the famous architect Ignatius Bonomi.
And Ignatius Bonomi, beside having a great name, was the surveyor whose work included the first railroad bridge:
The bridge famously featured on the opening day of the railway, 27 September 1825, when Locomotion No. 1 crossed it with a train of coal and passengers.
