No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I'm aware of kbin, mastodon, and lemmy. Are there any other federated applications out there?
5·3 years agoWhat’s the difference between Owncast, and Peertube’s livestreaming function?

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Is there a good, actively maintained, opensource alternative to Tasker, on Android?
2·3 years agoFrom what I can see, Macrodroid does not appear to be opensource, but thank you for the suggestion.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is there any project that is actively archiving the content posted to all Fediverse projects?English

5·3 years agoIt’s closed source, and it costs money.

Linux@lemmy.ml•NTFS turns 30 years old today! I hear it's still in use by some crufty old legacy operating systems 😁English
71·3 years agoI’ve heard that ReFS is supposedly replacing NTFS, on Windows.

1·3 years agoNot sure how to do that though
Copy the content, delete the post, and repost it to the other community in the same way that you posted it here? Technically, you could use the repost button, but that’s under the assumption that your post is within the scope of this community in the first place – which it is not.

1·3 years agoThis post is off topic for this community – it would be more appropriate to post it somewhere like the Fediverse Community .

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Is there a sort of equivelant to Wikipedia for hiking trails?
1·3 years agoThat’s a fine recommendation! Thank you!

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Is there a sort of equivelant to Wikipedia for hiking trails?
1·3 years agoOf course, few things in life are truly free – presumably, such a service would be run by donations, and the community.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Is there a sort of equivelant to Wikipedia for hiking trails?
2·3 years agoWhile I do agree that these features are very useful, and interesting, they are unfortunately not the type of service that I am looking for. I encourage you to check out AllTrails, so that you can see an example of what I mean.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Is there a sort of equivelant to Wikipedia for hiking trails?
3·3 years agoI’d be concerned if All Trails started taking all that data and charging for access.
I share the very same concern.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Is there a sort of equivelant to Wikipedia for hiking trails?
9·3 years agoAh, my apologies, I wasn’t specific enough in my intent for the post. I am looking for something akin to AllTrails – you search for a trail, and the site provides you with all of the relevent information: descriptions, pictures, waypoints, information about trail dangers, maps (that’s where OpenStreetMap would come in), time to complete the trail, distance, elevation gain, hiking season, etc.
EDIT: I have now updated the post so that it is more accurate in its intent.
FYI, you can edit post titles directly. You don’t need to put an “edit” in the description.

No Lawns@slrpnk.net•Scottsdale bans natural grass in front yards of new houses to conserve water amid Arizona's drought | CNNEnglish
12·3 years agoWhy ban natural grass? Would putting people on a water meter not accomplish the same thing? Being on a water meter would, theoretically, reduce waste, but at the same time allows one to maintain some of their liberty.

Lemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the long-term storage plan for Lemmy instances?
12·3 years agoI worry that these sorts of things would end up turning the site into a popularity contest (or, well, more of a popularity contest than these sorts of sites already are. That being said, I’m quite proud of Lemmy, currently, as it appears to be resisting that). Also I’m not entirely sure how things like payed comment awards would work with everything being federated.

They’re viewable on Lemmy too!
