Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's your favorite Christmas movie, and why?English
21·2 years agoHogfather. Based on the Terry Pratchett book of the same name. The hogfather (santa) is missing so Death has to fill in.

Firefox@lemmy.ml•Google slows down Firefox users when watching YouTube....English
4·2 years agoThat is very true. This page is a good starting point: https://github.com/plenaryapp/awesome-rss-feeds. It has some interesting feeds, but it is very hard to find things “in the wild” now.

Firefox@lemmy.ml•Google slows down Firefox users when watching YouTube....English
2·2 years agoI am in a similar situation. I did just start using RSS and that has been interesting. Nice to get everything in one spot, with no ads, and it’s specifically what I’m interested in.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•My cat(s) likes to sit in front of the space heater?English
3·2 years agoMy cats both like to be near the space heater when its on. So far we haven’t had any trouble with it, but we always stay in the same room and keep an eye on them.
I started using Lemmy a bit before the blackout and all that fun stuff. I was using both before the blackout, then just Lemmy during, and I realized I had a lot more free time and was enjoying the posts on Lemmy more, so I just stayed here full time.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Looking for selfhosted app for managing and playing podcastsEnglish
3·3 years agoI love Audiobookshelf for audiobooks, didn’t realize it supported podcasts as well. I will have to look into that, thanks!
I don’t know that you can do it without an extension, however Mozilla has put out an extension called “Firefox Translations” that translates webpages locally on your computer with a downloaded dictionary. So far it works well in my experience, though I don’t know any other languages, so I can’t really speak to its accuracy. That being said, so far I haven’t come across any nonsensical translations.

H3L1X@lemmy.mltoPersonal Finance@lemmy.ml•It's Almost Impossible To Find A Decent Used Car Under $20,000English
1·3 years agoThat was definitely my experience buying a car a few months ago. My car was totaled so I had to buy a replacement unexpectedly. I was seeing used cars with 30,000-50,000 miles selling for more than MSRP and new cars were very hard to find. I ended up buying a new car that was less expensive than the used cars I was looking at and ended up getting a much lower APR due to the fact that it was a new car.
Yeah, the DBD community is pretty bad.
I switched because Microsoft just keeps getting worse and worse, and I like having complete control over my system. And limiting the amount of my data going out.
Linux in general uses much less system resources than windows, and I like being able to easily change my workflow (desktop environment, window manager, etc).

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is it normal for a person to "feel" less as they get older?
9·3 years agoI came here to say that as well. Or, as @vd1n says, mushrooms. It really helps remind you that the world is wondrous, and even after it’s over, it makes it easier to see the joy in everything.
Fixed rate fine based penalties for “crimes” really bother me. Not that I have a better solution, but that is inherently unfair.
That is true, I do quite like that rule.

I also like nutritional yeast on popcorn. Sometimes i will do curry powder instead.
