This is simply not true in my experience. Basically everyone I know has to deal with all kinds of shit when installing Linux. Broken graphics drivers, random freezes, the touchpad disabling after closing the laptop, wifi not working, etc. There’s always something. Now I don’t mind fixing that, because I enjoy Linux more despide all of these issues. Andost of my friends manage to solve it as well because they’re programmers like me. But the average person might not be able to solve it and will feel like they’re constantly interacting with a broken system.

Nope, I’m European so I’ve never heard of it tbh. I like pizza, so I wouldn’t mind trying if I ever end up ip in the area somehow
Damn I just woke up from a midday nap, wondering what year it is. Very relatable meme

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•In which game did you spend the most hours?English
7·3 years agoAlso Rocket League. I’ve got like 2K hours and managed to get to Grand Champion (1) once, but usually hang around in Champ 2 or 3. In a way I just play like a very consistent Diamond player though. I can semi-reliably wavedash, sometimes manage to hit a half flip, and can’t do any flip resets, musty flicks, etc. I solely rely on positioning, shooting at the right time, fast aerials, bumping, and boost stealing.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How familiar were you with the Fediverse before coming here?
1·3 years agoDuring my master’s degree we had a course where we had to make a small app or data collection thingy using the Mastodon api (or something, can’t fully remember). So I was aware it existed, and contemplated joining at a few points. Ultimately though, I just don’t really vibe with Twitter-like social media. After Reddit did the thing, I saw Lemmy, which suits me way better. I like it so far. I’m donating a small amount of money to help with keeping the instance running, and I hope this remains a cool place to be for many years to come.

3·3 years agoSorry for being pedantic, but it’s “Ruud” not “Rudd”. I’ve noticed that the same mistake often gets made with other Dutch spellings, like the Haas F1 team being written as “Hass” online. Do repeated vowels feel weird or something to people who don’t speak Dutch, or is it just a coincidence?
Not impossible indeed. Though I’m not sure there will be fireworks. It’s not like Hamilton and Russell or Leclerc and Sainz are creating a lot of drama.
It’s impressive how McLaren managed to rise. The battle behind Max is heating up yet again. I felt like Lando’s talent was being wasted with the previous car, so it’s good to see that he’s up to his usual shenanigans again now. Also cool to see Piastri being right up there with Norris. Het had a lot of hype around him, and so far that seems to have been for the right reasons. I would be very surprised if McLaren would stay at this level consistently, but I’d be very satisfied to see them in the mix with Ferrari, Mercedes, and Aston, depending on the track.
Damn what an ending of Q1. Times just came tumbling down. Happy to see Williams through, the dream lives on

Android@lemmy.world•For the people coming in asking what app for Lemmy. You don't need it. Lemmy is great on a mobile browser.English
1·3 years agoBecause on my phone, using Firefox, the mobile experience isn’t too great. It’s slow, sometimes the screen just blanks out and I need to reload, and sometimes it rapid-fires new posts on the top of the page which makes it impossible to click anything

Formula 1@lemmy.ml•The serious Red Bull F1 alternatives adding to De Vries pressure - The RaceEnglish
5·3 years agoNot too surprised that Nyck is under pressure tbh. Alpha Tauri picking up Nyck was already a bit of a surprise for me, since they have quite some talent at the ready. His Monza race was amazing, but I think people extrapolated a bit too much from that one race.
As a Dutchman I do hope that Nyck manages to turn this around though. Having two Dutch drivers in F1 is very cool

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Most important thing you've learned in the past 5 years
8·3 years agoYeah this is definitely a good mentality to become a better person. I’m still struggling a bit with wanting to do everything perfectly, which causes me to stop doing it. But I’ve started getting more success with just telling myself they “anything is better than nothing”.
I used to not really do any sports and eat whatever I felt like. In the past few years I’ve started turning it around by picking up running and trying to eat better. If I would’ve expected perfection in either of those, I would’ve quit within a month. But by being proud of every good decision I make, however small it is, I managed to keep it going and changed my health for the better.
To be honest, I disagree. It’d be logical if that was true, because that’s what you’d expect, but I’ve met plenty of counterexamples. People who were well educated in some subject and therefore assumed that they know everything better. I’ve found that for a certain group of people, having a bachelor’s or master’s degree makes them overestimate their ability massively. Some of them you could at least partially convince with facts, but I’ve also met a few of them who has gone completely off the deep end. Well educated doesn’t always mean intelligent
Yeah imo it definitely sounds a bit sus as well. It sounds weirdly clean compared to his other communication, has no video (unlike most other communication that I’ve seen), and although I don’t speak Russian the pauses in his speech and the way he’s speaking in the recording in general feel off. It could totally be real, but it does feel very convenient that he just stops like this with help from Lukashenko of all people. We’ll see soon enough though.
Not my experience. I’ve had multiple old games and an old printer that just straight up didn’t work under Windows. On Linux however (using wine for the windows exe’s) it usually does run. Sometimes it does require some googling, but there’s usually someone who tried it before.
Keep in mind that it’s currently not really finished. It probably can’t be your main app (yet)

Absolute chads. I’m curious what kind of response this is going to get.
