Linux@lemmy.ml•Recommendations for a FOSS Cross-Platform Note-Taking Application
1·3 years agoiOS has Möbius Sync as a Syncthing client, but it is not free ( but only 5$ one time payment) if you want to sync folders from other apps like Syncthing. The option to sync other folders was introduced this year.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Recommendations for a FOSS Cross-Platform Note-Taking Application
3·3 years agoI am also using iOS with Möbius Sync and it is working quite well. The sync is not running all the time in the background due to iOS restrictions but it is running multiple times per day on my device.
The option to sync folders was only introduced this year. It costs about 5$ one time payment.

31·3 years agoThere will be many conversion tools for Joplin to other structures. So I guess the format is a non issue.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•It's time to take advantage of Reddit's decline
4·3 years agoThere is always a risk of collapse for lemmy. When you are in decline there can be negative feedback loops furthering the decline.
But how high is the rate of unemployment in your country? In Germany it is really low, so it probably costs a working person only a few euros per month to support all children of unemployed persons. Not sure if it is worth it to not help these children as they are already severely disadvantaged. Not to mention it can be seen as an investment in these children.
Have you calculated how much money goes to these children of non-working people?
If you are not paying for Sync you are getting ads. So you are still paying (attention, data, you are the product).
Additionally proprietary software has some long term disadvantages that are not visible at first. This is why one needs to always inform people about it as they do not understand these disadvantages.
The biggest issue is that the owners of the proprietary code can change its course whenever they like it. See for example the Reddit Apollo Dev who would have sold out the community for 10 million dollars:

2·3 years agoAnd how many are that? Are the non bootlickers even a significant number?
Would you say that the average citizen of a developed nation is one of these rich or is benefiting from the rich? They probably make up the most of these statistics about happiness.

FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early)@lemmy.ml•Do you invest in International funds?
1·3 years agoThe issue is that the fees on these usually eat any advantage they provide. As they are marketed to a more uninformed crowd the emitters will not forward the advantages to the investors.

World News@beehaw.org•Hamburg: Climate activists let air out of tyres of 33 cars (mainly SUVs!) again
3·3 years agoI don’t think it is only because of disinformation. Our modern day consumption is desirable on its own. I don’t think you need disinformation to convince people that flying to a sunny and exotic location is desirable. Or the flexibility and mobility that driving thousands of kilometres per year in cars provides. Eating meat and drinking milk…

World News@beehaw.org•Hamburg: Climate activists let air out of tyres of 33 cars (mainly SUVs!) again
1·3 years agoThe sticky jam is probably a better idea than the flat tire, due to the lower risk of real damage. Issue would be to make it really uncomfortable while still being easily accessible for the protestors. It has to be as uncomfortable as the tire. But I guess the goo could easily produced at home from household supplies.

World News@beehaw.org•Hamburg: Climate activists let air out of tyres of 33 cars (mainly SUVs!) againEnglish
4·3 years agoThere will always be cases of collateral damage. You won’t be able to safe the climate in such a big and complex society without disadvantaging some people.
Maybe one possibility for your wife could be to measure the cleaning equipment and see if it might fit into a smaller car and potentially buy cleaning equipment that is more foldable that might fit. Usually even these small cars have a lot of space when using the back seat row. A big vacuum and mops should easily fit. If this is not possible then I completely understand your problem.
The bigger issue I see with this is that, when your wife would do everything to save gas, she would need to take some disadvantages, e.g., more uncomfortable to load the small vehicle. If there is no pressure for other people, she would be the only one doing it, making it unfair. That’s why it is so important to generate pressure on climate damaging behaviour on all fronts. And this action is one efficient and realistic way to achieve that. But of course you can make the movement more unpopular in the general population… It is really difficult to find and decide for a solution here…

12·3 years agoThe issue is that an SUV is probably never needed, therefore everyone can trade it in for a more reasonable car.

General Discussion@lemmy.world•Preserving Reddit's knowledge on Lemmy, and the ethical questions that raisesEnglish
2·3 years agoThis should be extended to also mirror subreddits and comments with their upvotes. The system could create fake users to achieve this. I guess as the 3rd party API is now expensive the mirroring needs to be done from a backup.
Additionally it would be ideal to have the posts mirrored also on a specific community on any instance. This way the new communities can decide if they want to start from scratch or from their Reddit content.

2·3 years agoIt would be ideal to just mirror all subreddits, posts and comments from Reddit to the fitting community in Lemmy. Comments might be tricky, but should be possible by a knowledgeable programmer on his own instance.
