New bug in 1.24.

The very first directive I got on a new game I couldn’t select anything (there were no buttons) and I simply had to quit to menu.

I played through an entire session this morning and here’s a few notes.

1. The {character} placeholders are still showing on the latest version for me.
2. I didn’t mention it previously but it bugged me and I wanted clarification. When you get to a new system you’re presented with two planets but you can only ever choose to probe one and you can’t go back and probe the other. Once you probe one planet, you’re done. You either land on that planet or leave the system entirely. Ignoring the other planet entirely.
3. When you DO land on a planet none of the stats (seemingly) take into account the event where you meet up with the second ship and choose to merge with them. The directive from that event says that both ships will colonize the planet together (if you chose that route) but when you actually land, it’s not reflected at all.
4. The event log will show something like “22 deaths, critical must be looked into” (I don’t remember the exact wording) but you can’t do anything about it or investigate or do anything else. It’s just text. If this is just flavor text then maybe it needs to be slightly tweaked so that the player doesn’t feel like they are supposed to do something and can’t.

In addition to this, i just got my first directive that has enough text to scroll and i can’t scroll to see the rest of the text at 1440p. There’s no scroll bars, mouse wheel isn’t doing anything, i can’t drag the text or use page up/down or arrow keys.

Found a small bug after resuming my game. There’s a placeholder tag for a character name that isn’t filled in for some reason.

Thank you so much for addressing these issues. This is a great little game and I honestly enjoying it more than I expected when it simply stopped working. I just paid you for this because most games like this are simply made in a day or two, posted on itch.io and then never thought about again. You clearly are working through this and I want to help.

After playing for about 10 minutes, it pegged my CPU and then crashed silently and completely disappeared with no errors at all.

The options screen is cut off on my install of Linux. Linux Mint 22 w/ Cinnamon 1440p

18 was a long ass time ago for me. It would have been the late 90’s. The world was so much different that I don’t think anything I could say in 3 words would make any sense to my 18 year old self. I didn’t have any money at 18 so something like “buy apple stock” wouldn’t have worked.

Even taking the big assumption that I believed what I was telling my 18 year old self I can’t actually come up with anything that makes sense in context. 3 words just isn’t enough to convey anything useful given the time difference and everything else!

This map is really out of date. We now know there were humans in North America many thousands of years before “15,000 years ago”.

I hadn’t actually considered that. That very likely makes me ineligible actually. Thinking about it like that, I doubt any of my ancestors were ever actually Canadian. I’d forgotten about the fact Canada wasn’t an independent country yet so they wouldn’t qualify and therefore I wouldn’t either.

My mom’s side of the family is all Cajun, which means they came from France, went to Canada, and then settled in Louisiana (where I was born). Considering how long ago all this happened there is likely exactly zero documentation about this. What can I do?

I’ve taken french, spanish and latin. None of which would help me with much older English. I’m pretty good with figuring out context but I’d probably have a really hard time with anything older than 1400-1500. Canterbury tales for example in the original English is really hard to read and there’s a lot of words that make no sense to a modern only English speaker.

I did say the name in my post… It’s called Ice World and it’s an older sci-fi book from either 50’s or 60’s. It’s only about 200 pages long.

There are quite a few sci-fi stories and short stories built on a similar concept. One of my favorites is an alien ship lands on a random farm in the US and (leaving a lot of details out, read the book!) it comes to light that the aliens normally live at insanely hot temperatures like 900F (480C) and consider Earth an “Ice World” (that’s also the name of the book). Anyway, one of the catches in the book is that farmer figures out the alien wants to trade (again skipping a lot of details) but all he has on him that he can give up is a cigarette (the farmer doesn’t know it’s super hot inside the ship). He does the trade and we later find out that most of the galaxy is INSANELY vulnerable to being 100% completely utterly addicted to nicotine. When the alien took in the cigarette it instantly vaporized and sent the nicotine into the air and they breathed it and became instantly addicted worse than any opiod addiction IRL.
