105·3 years agoOh they are desperate for engagement.
I learned in SQL class that you never ever hard delete data when there is any alternative. On Facebook and Twitter you get a whole month to change your mind before your account can’t be recovered.
This was actually a major confounding factor in the original marshmallow experiment. They never thought that kids wouldn’t trust the promise of additional marshmallow later.
OpenStreetMap has some pretty good offline maps. You can download them region by region so you don’t need the whole world at once.

11·3 years agoThey just haven’t been sued over it (afaik) yet because blind people have found other solutions. Reddit is so far behind in accessibility compared to other social media- the official app doesn’t have:
- Any way to add alt text on images
- Accessible moderation tools
- Aria labels on the upvote and downvote buttons, the most basic feature of the site
It’s actually incredible how little thought was put into the redesign and the official app.

27·3 years agoThe only apps that are getting accessibility exemptions are apps that are only about accessibility, not apps that happen to have good accessibility and also do other things.
Here in Texas most of the gas pumps have two or three notches for the latch to go in, so the speed is adjustable. It seems to me like the highest setting is usually pretty close to just holding down the handle at full blast, minus a little bit of play in order to get the latch into and out of the notch.
I can’t wait for LiF.
I’m also hopeful for more creator-owned services like Nebula and Dropout. They tend to run off extremely cheap subscription models (about $5 a month for Dropout, less than $2 a month for Nebula) and all that money goes to the creators with very little business overhead in the way.

Damn. Did they ever find your actual source code in there
