2·2 years agoI’m so glad I went back and finished it recently. The MQ story is really good. I put on a mod to make magicka regenerate like in later games and played a straight mage, eventually crafting rings to be able to jump around town super fast and another to cross the continent.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•What games can you not get into because they feel too outdated?
2·2 years agoGoldeneye just isn’t a very good game. It was one of the best fps games on the N64 so if all you’ve got is an N64 you’re going to think it’s amazing. But other games have done much better what it tried to do so today it feels clunky and bad. Contrast to something like Doom which still holds up today because that style of gameplay hasn’t been massively improved on.

Technology@lemmy.world•EV Batteries Are Dangerous to Repair. Here’s Why Mechanics Are Doing So AnywayEnglish
21·2 years agoEVs are still much cheaper to run than ICEs though. Yes the battery is an expensive replacement but maintenance is still much cheaper because they don’t have gearboxes, clutches, turbo chargers, catalytic converters, particulate filters, spark plugs, engine oil, timing belts, head gaskets, cylinders, exhausts, etc. etc.

World News@lemmy.world•Revealed: Sellafield nuclear site [UK] has leak that could pose risk to publicEnglish
122·2 years agoProblems like this are just handwaved away because nuclear waste could in theory be safely disposed of. In the cases where is hasn’t been the pro nuclear guys just say “well if they did it properly it wouldn’t be an issue”, which might be true but if countries like the UK, US and Germany have had issues, you have to ask if its really realistic to assume that the problem will always be dealt with properly.
The other answer is some future tech reactor that hasn’t been built on any real world scale that runs on nuclear waste and produces none. Great idea in theory but how does it compare with renewables in terms of cost?

193·2 years agoIf you think the Falklands should be part of Argentina, logically Hawaii should be part of Kiribati. Alaska should be Russian/Canadian, etc etc. If you think about it for more than a minute it becomes clear that geographical location is not the only factor or even the most important one.

World News@lemmy.world•Rishi Sunak considers tax cut for top earners after byelection defeatsEnglish
2·2 years agoThere’s 5 years between elections unless the ruling party calls one early so a pm resigning doesn’t help but calling an election early and winning does. We’re still on the clock from Johnson’s 2019 landslide win - which he called 3 years early because they were way ahead in the polls. Truss and Sunak didn’t call early elections because they already had a big majority and would probably lose seats.
