  • Played the demo a bit. I really enjoyed the mechanics illustrated here. Felt like a modern roguelike with a license I’d enjoy.

The one thing that stood out negatively for me was the art direction. Especially the character design. It’s one thing to not have the original faces, which is fair. I guess it’s some rights oddities with actors and actresses owning their own likelihood or something. But the movement is stiff and they just feel kind of… I don’t know, “dead” would be a hard word, but it kind of fits. I would have preferred a more comic-like appearance or something. Maybe a bit like the tf2 characters? That wouldn’t require the high budget that’s needed to make a human look decent which then never works anyway and always ends up deep in the uncanny valley. I also would have preferred a more abstract look of the systems, like an astrometrics map or something, with views that show actual models more true to scale (e.g. like the look of homeworld).

I’m too busy to play video games right now anyway, so I guess I’d wait for a sale either way, but it still feels like the game could have worked better for me, personally, if a few decisions in the design process had been made differently.

  • Well, you know, the question was why that guns topic is so much more important than all the other atrocities going on. You see the relation in there? This idea of “I get there’s topic A, but why the fuck would that matter more than actually relevant topics B through ZZ?” Any relevant answer would thus have to establish some relation between A and any other topic and maybe generalise this relation a bit.

Your answer was “guns and v8 make dick hard”. More or less. Which is a not too elaborate but somewhat fair statement in itself, but, you know, kind of absolutely doesn’t answer my question. Alas, you missed the topic. Happens to the best. But don’t get all mad if you don’t get your upvote then, pal.

  • If that’s the reason for guns and huge cars, then it’s one of the best takes I’ve ever seen for regulating the fuck out of both.

There are plenty of other ways to feel empowered, big boy. Go downhill mountain biking. Learn martial arts. Become a part time lumberjack. Whatever. But if you just need hobbies that make you pound your chest, there’s really no reason to pick those that kill people or the planet.

  • I’m not from the US and only have a vague understanding of the dynamics on the other side of the pond. But damn would it be funny if of all the things he does this would be his downfall. Like, there’s a million reasons not to let that guy near any public office… The pedophilia, the ridicule of disabled people, the dementia, the dismantling of democracy and its institutions, the treatment of women, the lying, you know this list could go on forever. But now there’s this one thing he says that any other country on earth regards as a reasonable and sensible thing to enforce, which is “people shouldn’t be allowed to carry guns around all the time” and suddenly he has a problem with important voter demographics. Like… this is a problem now? Unlike… *wildly gesturing at everything*…?

What nonsense. The whole premise here was that people are being told something. If somebody’s repeatedly told that they’re probably a lunatic because of the .ml attached to their name they’ll know something’s up. This isn’t about not telling people, this is about treating people like they know what they’re doing and telling them. Otherwise we wouldn’t even have this discussion because I’d just have left.

But this is going nowhere. You say we can’t expect people to know the symbolism they surround themselves with, I say it’s bullshit. We’re going in circles. So, you do you, great. I’ll, however, assume that the next person I see wearing a swastika is, in fact, a lunatic moron, and not just a poor fella who unknowingly made a wrong pick in the thrift store.

I’m not punching anyone or calling them names. I’m judging them and tell them that their actions leave a certain impression. And yes, if somebody knowingly buys nestle, I won’t value their opinion on sustainable products or supply nets or listen to them when it comes to that topic 🤷. Tough shit. If you wear a badge you might better check what it represents.

    Holy shit, are you serious…?

You expect Joe Average and Jane Random to not only have to deal with clothing’s fragmentation, not only have to figure out which garments can actually be worn and relatively warm, you expect them to also research the politics of each piece of clothing before they wear it in public? And it’s not just that you expect Joe Average, and Jane Random to do that, you’re so certain they actually do it, that you’re perfectly comfortable assuming every single portrait-of-Mao-wearing person has identical political views and stances?

    Am I getting this right?

    That’s how you sound.
