Also called a gummer or number, referencing it’s numbing effects. It’s when you dip your finger in cocaine and rub it on your gums.
Pete would know, he’s had first hand experience.
While not the worst, a friend of mine who worked an appointment desk once came home and announced “I just made appointments for three people named Unique today”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What items do you have multiple of even though one would suffice?
3·30 days agoComputers. I could do everything I need to do on my threadripper workstation, but it’s not as portable as my gaming rig. I move around a lot for work and wasn’t thrilled with my steam decks performance plugged into a TV for some games. Then there is my limited home lab stuff that I could host on the workstation for a minimal hit to power consumption, but why do that when I have tons of older hardware I could piece together to do it. Then there are my multiple Atari STs that I’ve collected. One of them is my first computer which I’ve managed to keep for almost forty years. I also have a few classic macs and dozens of video games, all of which I could functionally duplicate with emulation. I like old hardware, and now it’s not polluting the environment in a landfill.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What are some common or everyday *unforced errors* to be wary of?
2·1 month agoI’ve been told I don’t hate dogs, because I treat them kindly but mostly try to ignore them. I find dogs incredibly annoying, but it’s not their fault and there is no reason they should suffer for my opinions.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Any RPGs that take into account when you reload a save? Or that break the 4th wall like this?
3·1 month agoBreath of Fire Dragon Quarter isn’t quite the what you are describing, but it is built around saving and reloading regularly.
I was at a shitty crustpunk bar once getting an after-work beer. One of those shitholes where the bartenders clearly hate you. So the bartender and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, “no. get out.” Anyway, I asked what that was about and the bartender was like, “you didn’t see his vest but it was all nazi shit. Iron crosses and stuff. You get to recognize them.” And i was like, oh ok and he continues. “And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh shit, this is a Nazi bar now. And it’s too late because they’re entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.”
You ever tried farming not high? It’s boring as shit.

3·1 month agoDoes it count if I own a typewriter, even though I’ve never used it?
I had dabbled with Linux and BSDs in the late 90s to early 2000s. I was using Win2k on main computer, fully updated with antivirus software when I started getting popups in Internet Explorer, and I never even used IE. My internet was slow so I went to a book store and bought a SuSE book with CDs.

Don’t worry, your RAM will die long before you do.
