    I volunteer for my town’s Finance Committee. The board is mostly retirees. They are confused why the market is down. Majority voted for 47.

      Exactly.

      It’s a bit like school shootings.
      First it’s the “too soon, time to grieve” reply. Then later it’s the “it’s time to move on, we’ve got other things to worry about now.”
      It’s a classic tactic. And, nowadays, it works again and again and again and afuckinggain.
