One time I was watching a Dorian Gray movie that came out recently with my mum (she’s an English teacher, she has read Wilde) and mid movie my mum asked me “but… was the painter gay in the book as well?”. And I thought that was funny how clueless she was, because the book never said he was gay, but it was strongly implied.
