I have seen ‘barely defeat’ a dozen times in Congress. If it was gonna pass, they would start pulling in favors from Democrats. Rather than close I would say it had no chance of passing.
To defeat the resolution Thursday, Republican leaders had to hold the vote open for more than 20 minutes while Republican Rep. Wesley Hunt, who had been out of Washington all week campaigning for a Senate seat in Texas, rushed back to Capitol Hill to cast the decisive vote.
Maybe but the last year has also been a nearly bipartisan split with the Republican party United no matter what and some bootlicking Dems even joining the Republicans.
It could be performative theatre but a tie with a Republican majority isn’t a a united front.
The public needs to believe that it was possible to keep them passive.
They didn’t have the votes to defeat it so they made a Republican who wasn’t in the room get there as fast as possible and refused to close the vote until he got there.
The United States don’t have an opposition any more. The current situation more closely resembles the bloc party system (“Blockparteien”) of East Germany and several other socialist countries.
Republikkkans so desperate for death, so greedy for bloodshed and war. Imagine being a US soldier dying in Venezuela for nothing. Imagine seeing your brother die in the dirt of a foreign land because a pedophile rapist is trying to distract people from the fact that he’s a pedophile rapist. Imagine being a republikkkan scratching and clawing in support of sending men to their deaths so that the pedophile rapist can stay in power.
Republicans Prove themselves to Be Cowards and Traitors - better headline.
