Only noticing on sh.itjust.works recently. If I scroll down to the bottom of page, try to go to the next, it hangs up, sometimes doesn’t load, on firefox mobile & desktop browsers.

Just a heads-up.

  • I feel like this has to be a bug with Lemmy itself because I have had this bug happen on multiple instances, with multiple clients.

When I reported the issue to my instance admins the first time it happened, they couldn’t figure it out and it just went away on its own after a day or so. Then it started happening to World and dbzer0.

You’re probably right, mander.xyz was terrible a week ago. Bringing it up somehow got them to find an issue so I thought it worth mentioning.

For mander.xyz it has been bot scrapers. That time that you are mentioning it was scraping via the onion front end that I am hosting for easier access over Tor. Yesterday an army of bots scraping via Alibaba cloud servers made the server unusable for a few minutes. The instance would receive a bunch of requests from the same IP range (47.79.0.0/16), and denying that full IP range fixed the problem.

Some instances implement anti-bot measures. For example, https://sopuli.xyz/ makes use of Anubis. I think that instances behind Cloudfare get some protection too. I am considering using Anubis for mander.xyz, but for now I have just been dealing with this manually as it does not happen too often.

This issue appears to have been fixed. Can anyone confirm whether they are still having any problems?

Just discovered this thread, but yes. It’s been this way for quite a while (weeks at least) and I’ve seen other people mention it from time to time.

Yes, the first page seems to be cached by cloudflare, but everything else just hits the server directly. The server then gets nearly unresponsive for multiple hours every day.
