Gavin newsom is not progressive, he’s not even liberal. He’s a politician. And the most dangerous kind - an ambitious politician.

Even an ambitious politician is meaningfully better than being an actual fucking nazi, no question. But it’s only self interest that keeps the former from becoming later.

Just because it’s in his interest to troll trump online today doesn’t mean he won’t, say, send trans folks to a concentration camp tomorrow.

Look I know you probably don’t want to hear this, but in the 2-party system of the US the best way to make space for a proper left party is to mainstream the centrist party and fully marginalize the right. The way things are now there’s no air in the room for anyone left of the Democrats. The Overton window has to be shifted back to the left for that to happen.

I think you’re correct, but I also think it doesn’t matter because you can’t get everything you want all at once. Voters need to make it clear that they’re not interested in what the right has to offer. That will create space for competing offers.

I also think that what is actually happening right now is a lot more important than what might happen.

Yeah vote republican, they were so good on gaza and trans ppl, espeeeeeeecially if its against gavin newsom!

Btw the US only has republican vs democrat, so if you arent voting democrat that means you vote republican, especially if you don’t vote, since the political strat of republicans is to outrage their base enough into a full turnout while actively discouraging democrat voters from participating.

I explicitly said that he’s still meaningfully better than republicans. I don’t mention voting at all. Or Gaza.

It’s not accurate to say that republican strategy involves “turnout” when they are currently deploying troops to suppress their political rivals.

He is a man who wants more power, first and at his core. At the moment, trolling trump and being seen to act against the regime serve that purpose. That’s good. We need anything we can get. But it’s important to remember that he is not trustworthy.
