After 4.5 years of Proxy-War something is breaking: When the cracks in the pro-war narrative get so large that even Neocons have to admit the empire is running out of munition, an inflection point has been reached. And we have seen this before. What David Gibbs calls the “Vietnam Moment” is not far away anymore.
In this talk, professor David Gibbs of the University of Arizona discusses his trip to the Baltics, arguing that anti-Russian feeling is widespread and that Russian-speaking minorities face exclusion. He and Pascal Lottaz compare Western messaging on Ukraine with Vietnam, debate the political costs of a setback, and discuss how culture-war language can be used to support military intervention.
These side by side chats are such a trash replacement for proper journalism. At least newspapers labelled their opinion columns back in the day. It’s all opinion now.
The US stopped supporting Ukraine the second that Trump took office again.

So I’m not really sure what the US has to do with Ukraine’s success or failure any more, except Trump wanting to be seen as a “winner” so warming to Zelensky as Ukraine starts to get more effective at destroying Russian war infrastructure.
The end of Ukraine
Does he mean the end of the war in Ukraine?
Vietnam moment
Does he mean for Russia?
I don’t want to watch this video. I think I’m going to hate it. I don’t want to hear him say what exactly he thinks about Europe from his trip to the Baltics.
WRT Russian minorities I will say this: The SU used to deliberately thin out local populations in the countries it ate up by sending dissidents and others to Siberia, while moving in Russians or people from elsewhere in the SU. To this day Russia makes claims on these countries for their Russian minorities. And the invasion of Ukraine shows how dangerous this can become.
The hate for Russians isn’t bigotry, it’s fucking consequences.
