Electric vehicles have taken off in Ethiopia. Key to the shift: a world-first ban on importing fossil fuel-powered vehicles.
Illegally importing and running fossil fuel cars is gonna be hard to pull off so this ban might actually work. Good shit.
Criminals don’t tend to mind hard work, as long as they can profit they will provide, unfortunately.
There’s a little more logistics that goes into smuggling illegal combustion engines than what goes into smuggling illegal liquors.
for one, they’re called “gas guzzlers” for a reason~
Yeah exactly if you need a special license to fuel and operate them then its gonna come out very quick that you dont have that license.
This headline is a bit misleading. 8% of cars are electric and the ban is on imports of ice vehicles.
It’s great don’t get me wrong, but I think the headline is borderline click bait.
It is a ban on importing new ICE cars. And because Ethiopia does not build cars, it is effectively a ban on new ICE cars. Anything else would be not viable right now. It is effective because new cars are, on average, driven more miles per car per year. And Ethiopia, as far as I know, is the first country to do so.
Cool but they still like to genocide their own people
Coal fired tesla forced upon them by the international security elite. Progress… this is why the rightwing resents you. They the “globalist” exist… they are called capitalist or some are the “international security elite” - Julian Assange
We are all fighting over half-truths burning our own house down as the noose tightens around our collective necks. The people that were supposed to solve the problem both left and right are running a game on us. The liberals are rebranding as the progressives. We need less cars period. It is not addition but subtraction it is redesign
I opt in to living in a socialist city with protection from unwarranted searches and seizure and no car but to be brutally forced to ride clean safe well funded metro. It is like careful what you wish for, you just might get it and you we be left raw saying thanks for nothing. The owners are still in charge so it shows the possible but not what makes a worker free.
