Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Anyone use Clevis + Tang to protect data on their home server?English
2·2 months agoNot sure raidproof exists. If they get there and it’s running, all they need is something that is already connected and can read it, so your surface area is huge. If they know you have things they need, and are aware you are technically competent, They’re just going to disconnect network, leave it running and call in pros. Anything is probably enough to get past local LEO, but if the feds come in, they’re going to get what they want unless you’re rolling your own drivers.

8·7 months agoAlgos have us all doom-scrolling.
When 9-11 happened the Fukushima I couldn’t tear myself away from the footage. Ended up being the same in Reddit with live updates, would have been the same with Tiktok I suppose but I never engaged on that.
I moved Youtube back to clients that only gave me who i follow, moved to lemmy/piefed.
I just want enough news to know what’s happening. I don’t need every gory detail or every opinion piece on it.
I even split on bluesky, wasn’t healthy.
Fediverse is just about as healthy as I can find.

875·8 months agoI’ve love to have private alpr’s in my neighborhood. We’ve had mailbox thefts and people driving around breaking into cars, even had car stolen. These guys are changing their plates regularly, but it would be super cool to at least get a neighborhood wide alert if someone who’s done done shit has rentered our neighborhood. I’m just not keen on giving that data to 3rd parties lock stock and barrel

10·8 months agoI absolutely hate what Plex has become. I bought a lifetime pass a long, long time ago, and ever since that purchase, they seem to have done nothing but strip features I need and force features I don’t want.
Now if we could just sort the jf collections type in ways other than by date ;)

157·8 months agoPulled the CC data from downsub, asked AI to summarize, then reviewed the CC to make sure it was accurate.
It’s mostly fluff centered around data about a couple of new packs and claimed ranges.
20 kWh Pack
- Range: 350 km
- Charging power: Up to 100 kW
- Adds 200 km of range in 10 minutes
30 kWh Solid‑State Pack
- Range: 600 km on a single charge
- Charging power: Up to 200 kW
- Adds 300 km of range in under 10 minutes
Claims to be largest motorcycle battery of its kind
SO they’re decently large, can charge quickly, I’d be a bit surprised if they were getting those actual ranges in real-world scenarios.

I just need JF to be in the same neighborhood as the corporate stuff for security and end-user ease of use. I can do a hell of a lot of complicated stuff on my end, but walking grandma through a change is painful.

Saved servers and settings will not be migrated from Jellyfin Media Player.
I can fix it, and it’s no big deal, but I provide services to friends and family who’ll need me to walk them through it.
That’s the stuff where we lose out to corporate products.

34·8 months agoI do worry about the longevity of unionization in the gaming industry. There’s a lot of churn and high demand for the positions. There’s remote work now, scabs don’t even need to show up to cross the picket line.

11·1 year agoIt will happen eventually. All they need to do is start new/rotating keys on wildvine and put the ads at random times right in the stream, then disable fast forward if you use it to skip ads. It’ll be a UX hit, so it’ll need to be worth it to them.
In the end, they can’t stop us from HDMI capturing and using comskip to detect / remove but there are a million ways to play tag between where we are now and that which don’t require people posting videos to pirate bay :)

6·1 year agoIMO, Nokia’s bread and butter was the hardware and the simplicity. The phone apps were just Java.

Might be a bit pedantic, but it is good to note they’re not actually FOSS, they’re non-commercial source available.
The intent is somewhat reasonable, you can’t use their source to make a commercial product.
That said, i’m pretty glad the FOSS community doesn’t work that way.
Also of point, i trust them far more than any of the other non-FOSS options.
