  • How would you explain it? Is it the afterlife you’re communicating with or with the disembodied souls of those roaming the earth? What are they doing here, if it’s the latter? And what are you basing this on if it’s the former? Western European mythology, meaning either Elysium/Valhalla or idk whatever forest fairy kingdom Germanics believed in? Or are you going full Semitic monotheism, Heaven and Hell stuff? Cause idk if Jewish or Muslim tradition allows for seances. 🤔

Anyway I’m just being too serious for no reason, lol, most people wouldn’t drop a book simply because their cosmology is nonsensical. I would, though. 😅

  • It’s a word, first of all. Cancer can progress, it doesn’t mean it’s in everyone’s best interest, lol.

Let’s just use the word “change”. Would the society I live in benedit from change? Certainly! In many aspects, and not so much in others (fish and chips and farmer markets can stay as they are, for example, but binge drinking, consumerism, extreme self-centeredness and hedonistic sexual practices should become a thing of the past and stay there).

And no, my main goal is to please God by being a prosocial element in the universe we’ve been given for free, as righteous and pious as I can be within reasonable expectations. In a way, it has necessitated personal progress, as I’ve had to learn to live with the emotional instability that comes with ADHD and childhood trauma, trying my best to remain calm and not explode/start swinging. I’ve learned to care about people even if their lives don’t impact me in any way, I’ve learned to be more flexible and understanding instead of just trying to impose my POV and disregard others as foolish nonsense. With God’s and my wife’s help, I feel like I’ve made much progress, and hopefully I still have more years to develop. But I’ve many other traits I’m pleased with and would not like to change, and others that aren’t problematic enough to be worth the effort of making changes.

As such, change/“progress” has been a means to an end, not the end by itself. And if your goal was just “progress”/change, how would you know when to stop? How would you measure success, either total or partial? 😅

  • You can lend money, just don’t make profit out of it. I lend money all the time to friends and have never asked for anything in return except for the amount I gave, and even then it’s better to let go of that. But ofc in the absence of moral ideology and values, people won’t know right from wrong, won’t police themselves and society will slowly degenerate. Only in a dysfunctional group do you have to enforce basic things all the time and for everyone instead of just a minority of antisocial misfits/mentally ill individuals (and, personally, I just refuse to capitulate to immorality just because it exists, that’s for lesser men).

  • You can’t be moral and prosocial without also being anti-West (anti imperialism, moral relativism and “might makes right” as your only real value, not anti sauerkraut and the Mona Lisa, evidently). And that doesn’t mean pro anything else besides what being anti-West rejects. For the Africa part… there just aren’t that many African people here, I’m assuming, for those posts to be big. Same with Latin American posts. Also, China affects the rest of the world and is a “big player” so it makes sense they’d be talked about often.

Welcome btw! And where in Africa are you from?

Ps: also you’ve been here for a day and all you’ve done is comment acceptable Western narratives… Are you lying on the internet, mister?!

  • Ehhhh, idk, I’m not formally part of any fandom, I just yap about it online when the opportunity arises, but I’d probably say Dune? And this is not very controversial amongst book readers (most of the current fandom came from Denis’ movies) but the recent movies both left many important book passages/scenes out (the dinner party, for example) and also unnecessarily and to the movies’ detriment changed some characters in very fundamental ways. And I’m not even talking about sex/gender cause sometimes that doesn’t change much of the narrative, but other stuff like Chani being just a sassy New Yorker instead of an extremely mature 15 yo with big responsibilities in her tribe, or the superficial “religious schism” subplot in the second movie, which is certainly relatable/acceptable to the average Western 20 something but is incompatible with Fremen society as Herbert wrote it.

Instead, Denis made a very pretty movie with long, silent shots… but Dune is anything but silent, it’s heavy in dialogue and internal monologues like Legend of the Galactic Heroes. A bit of a disappointment but, hey, the first movie pushed me to get a COVID vaccine shot quickly so I guess something good came out of it? 😅
