I remember when the minumum wage was increased under Obama, inflation stopped and actually reversed for awhile. I know you don’t have much to offer other than snark, but I think it’s worth saying for other people who read this that you’re heavily guessing what it’s like to live in poverty. I grew up in homeless shelters—when my family finally got into government housing I had to steal from grocery stores for my family to eat. If you think being jobless or homeless are the most terrifying things that could ever happen to someone you’ve had a very blessed life.

I think you missed the point. I think (as I stated) that companies shouldn’t exist that don’t pay a living wage. Millions of jobs going away is fine by me because I come from the real world where everybody is working 2-3 jobs to make ends meet. I can see why you believe that losing a job would be devastating, but most of us would be glad to be in your position where we depend on a single income to survive.

Editing to reword this since a lot of people who’ve read this have an elementary school reading level or are intentionally misunderstanding the point repeatedly:
The minumum wage needs to be tied to a living wage. No company that can’t pay their employees a living wage has a special divine right to exist. Increasing the minumum wage will hurt some people—mostly the rich, but this will absolutely hurt some poor people too. There’s no economic policy that will have zero consequences for people at the bottom. We’ve seen in the past that exploitative companies go under when wages increase and I think that’s actually a good thing & I’d love to see many employers and landlords lose their wealth. Our goal as a society shouldn’t be to increase jobs and profits numbers, but to strive to increase the quality of living for everyone, especially those near the economic bottom.

Weird that you’re making this a US problem

All the countries Israel keeps bombing need to form a pact that they’ll act in unison to defend each other

Don’t you think he got enough of that in high school
Eta: I love that only a small number of people got the original reference or response

Hasn’t stopped them from stealing oil from Venezuela and Cuba

Generally, yes. I spent years of quite a bit of effort to only surround myself with people who treat me as an equal & share my general values. I have to turn my brain off during serving-the-capitalists hours though.

You always have a toaster and butter on the train?

That was the most jarring thing for me transitioning from a community/junior college to a private university. Pretty much every teacher I had in CC was there because they loved to teach, but didn’t want to teach children. In University it felt like everyone was teaching because they had bills to pay and had no concept of a world outside of school.

Anything by Pimplywimp, but especially Holy SH!t
The ability to gain popularity is an underrated skill imo. I feel like we could accomplish so much more as a society if there were good humans using their influence to unite people to build instead of destroy.
I feel like I have a somewhat better idea how to improve the world compared to those in power but I lack any kinda charisma afaik

“have been killed” feels intentionally misleading/inflammatory, the writers are trying to paint a picture that it was the result of US military action.
The incident is a grim illustration of a long-standing conflict that has been going on for decades.
Two people died after a boat capsized—we have no idea what caused it to sink

I was thinking the same thing “whether they knew it or not” is disingenuous. 3d scanning was an opt-in feature they specifically said they’d be using to add real world objects to their database

We see a lot of hand-wringing from Democrats, it’ll at least be interesting to see if every government in the world is equally impotent in the face of catastrophe

Using a screenshot of Stardew while quoting a developer saying it takes money and staff to finish a project is diabolical

I wonder if Fox is gonna talk about this 24/7 for the next two years like they did Jussie Smollette
While I think it’s stupid that the US isn’t helping, it does prove the point of their right wing: The rest of the world expects America to be in charge of fixing everything
